Boulder’s Digital Media Symposium Announces Full Lineup Featuring Pixar Co-Founder Alvy Ray Smith as Keynote Speaker

Annual Event Shines Light on State’s Techies and Creatives

BOULDER, Colo. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — February 9, 2012 — The Boulder International Film Festival (BIFF) announced today the full lineup for the Digital Media Symposium (DiMe), to be held Friday, Feb. 17 at the St Julien Hotel in Boulder from 1 – 6 p.m. Dr. Alvy Ray Smith, a co-founder of Pixar Animation Studios, will deliver the keynote address. Dr. Smith is a world-renowned computer graphics pioneer and two-time Academy Award winner.

Part of BIFF, the symposium is a unique event that combines the creative with the technical. DiMe is aimed at professionals interested in and affected by the vibrancy of the state’s creative and media sectors and their impact upon the state’s economy. The symposium will be moderated by Don Hahn, Academy Award-nominated producer of the animated feature films Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, The Nightmare Before Christmas and many more. Hahn will weave together a host of thought leaders and experts in entertainment, film/video, sports, gaming, marketing and transmedia storytelling.

Presenters include Paul Berberian, CEO of Orbotix; Ben Long, Founder of Noise Buffet and 123GuitarTuner.com; Carla Johnson, Founder and CEO of EarthvisionZ; Harris Morris, President of Harris Broadcast Communications; Andres Espineira, founder and CEO, and Melissa Hourigan, Vice President of Marketing for Pixorial; Rob Schuham, Co-Founder of FearLess Revolution; J. Erik Dyce, Founder and CEO of In Demand Bands; and Micah Baldwin, Founder and CEO of Graphicly. Joel Swanson of University of Colorado/Boulder will also participate.

DiMe has become the premier showcase of people, technologies and innovation in Colorado’s digital entertainment industry. It is also the inaugural recipient of the Arts & Business Collaborative Grant awarded by the Boulder Arts Commission.
