Luxology to Showcase modo 601 at GDC 2012

Gamer-Focused Features on Display in Intel Booth (#1024); Wes McDermott to Discuss modo to Unity Workflow Best Practices

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.  March 5, 2012 — This year at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2012, Luxology will be showcasing modo 601, the brand new version of its award-winning 3D content creation software in the Intel Booth (#1024). Additionally, modo 601 will be featured in a Unity Developer Day session entitled “Content Creation for Unity Using modo” at11:00am-11:30am on Tuesday, March 6th. Another Unity-focused modo demonstration will take place the following day from 10:30-10:55am in Unity’s booth (#1416). John Hayes, Senior Character Artist for SanZaru Games and Unity user Wes McDermott will participate in these demonstrations along with members of Luxology staff.

New Features for Game Development in modo 601

The recently released modo 601 is optimized for game development. With the new Topology Pen tool and a specialized environment for retopology modeling, game developers do not have to rely on a separate tool for creating clean low poly meshes on top of scans or sculpted models. The automatic preservation of UV's functionality now available in modo 601 lets modelers maintain uninterrupted focus during modeling operations without having to pause to fix UV maps. The new Mesh Cleanup tool further automates model preparation by removing floating vertices, discarding one or two point polygons, eliminating co-linear vertices, fixing face normals, merging discontinuous UV's and unifying polygons. And now, beyond being a modeler and texture baking tool for game development, modo 601 has opened up the door to character animation with powerful new skeleton building tools, a flexible system of deformers, and full-body inverse kinematics.
