PLDA and ReFLEX CES announce new line of System-on-Module (SoM) products, combining the ease of programming of a CPU with the configurability of an FPGA

New SoM line represents a groundbreaking collaboration between ReFLEX CES and PLDA and is being demonstrated this week at Embedded World in Germany

SAN JOSE, Calif, February 28, 2013 — PLDA, the industry leader in PCI Express® and interface IP solutions and ReFLEX CES, an industry‐leading designer of complex electronic embedded systems, today announced a joint project to produce leading System‐on‐Module (SoM) platforms. Embedded software developers can use the SoM and its carrier board as a turnkey prototyping solution. This approach allows them to move to production with the exact same SoM architecture on a customized carrier board with the right set of interfaces and extensions, either designed internally or by our partners, optimizing time‐to‐market. The new line of PLDA SoM products are built by ReFLEX CES using PLDA’s leading IP and will be marketed and supported by PLDA through their worldwide sales and distribution channels.

The PLDA SoM line is expected to include products based on leading SoC FPGA platforms from Altera and Xilinx. The benefits of the PLDA SoM products include:

  • The combined flexibility and ease of programming of a CPU with the configurability and parallel processing power of an FPGA
  • An integrated platform yields up to 40% bill of material (BOM) cost savings
  • An advanced design process enabling superior signal integrity and support for multi‐ Gigabit serial protocols
  • High‐efficiency power management circuitry enabling very low power consumption
  • An available evaluation carrier board providing instant bring up and quick prototyping
  • Comprehensive Board Support, enabling seamless integration
  • Around the clock technical support by embedded design experts

“System‐on‐Module devices enable faster innovation by giving embedded designers an easy way to jumpstart their projects and to avoid developing their applications from the ground up.” stated Stephane Hauradou, CTO for PLDA. “We are pleased that we could partner with an established embedded design expert like ReFLEX CES to deliver the best SoM solutions to the market.”

The first SoM products from PLDA will be announced in March 2013 and are expected to include both Xilinx‐based and an Altera‐based products.

New PLDA SoM products demonstrated at Embedded World

A running PLDA SoM evaluation is on display at the Embedded World show in Nuremberg, Germany from February 26 – 28. The demo shows a SoM product running a video demonstration program.
