Continental Mapping Selected for Mobile Lidar Project for Minnesota Department of Transportation

(Sun Prairie, WI)—May 13th, 2013— Continental Mapping Consultants, Inc. is pleased to announce that the Minnesota Department of Transportation has selected Continental Mapping to complete a mobile lidar acquisition and mapping project for a 22 mile stretch of Highway 23 between Cottonwood and Granite Falls, MN.

“This is the first time we have used this technology,” said Barry Anderson, land management engineer. “The innovative use of laser survey technology provides us with fast data collection, with less risk to surveyors and the traveling public.”

The Minnesota Department of Transportation has stated their interest in utilizing mobile lidar is to
provide high accuracy mapping in a safe, efficient manner and in a way that doesn’t impact the flow of traffic.  A key business driver of this project is the desire to complete the re-construction
of this road using stringless paving technology.  Continental Mapping’s mobile lidar solution will provide data to 1.5cm accuracies to support this requirement.

Continental Mapping will utilize their Riegl VMX-250 scanner to complete the acquisition as well as staffing the survey field crew, acquiring the mobile lidar data and processing it to end deliverables.

Headquartered in suburban Madison, Wisconsin, Continental Mapping is a leading provider of geospatial data development solutions including full service land survey, lidar, photogrammetric mapping, and remote sensing.
