DB Netz AG Selects Intergraph®'s Geospatial Solutions to Manage Geospatial Data of Germany's National Railway Infrastructure

GeoMedia® Desktop Suite unites DB Netz AG's geospatial information in a modern GIS environment

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Aug. 27, 2013 — (PRNewswire) —  DB Netz AG, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn AG and responsible for the railway infrastructure in Germany, recently selected by public tender Intergraph®'s GeoMedia® Desktop Suite as part of its AGON GIS project initiative. GeoMedia is a powerful, flexible GIS management platform that enables the aggregation of data from a variety of sources and analyzes them in unison to extract clear, actionable information. Intergraph's geospatial solutions will be used to manage the geospatial documentation of rail infrastructure, the transportation network and rail corridor data, as well as creating cartographic products.

"Using GeoMedia as part of our AGON project enables us to increase our data quality and integrity, and the enterprise-wide usage of our spatial infrastructure data," says Hans Jacoby, Head of Geodata Management at DB Netz AG. "Also, the system administration and handling is much easier, as well as the data exchange with third parties. All in all, it is a significant step to make our spatial information more accessible and usable across DB Netz AG."

Responsible for DB AG's entire rail infrastructure assets, DB Netz manages more than 33,500 kilometers of rail network. DB Netz was in need of a seamlessly-integrated system that could handle the vast amount of information DB Netz manages.

Using Intergraph's system, DB Netz will be able to consolidate all of its legacy systems into one modern GIS environment. Intergraph's user-friendly solution enables DB Netz to provide enterprise-wide access and usage of spatial information to thousands of users, streamlining workflows without the need of extensive training. Also with GeoMedia, DB Netz can access geospatial data in nearly any form and unite this data in a single view, providing efficient processing, analysis, presentation and sharing.

"Intergraph is pleased to be a part of AGON GIS-project and look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with DB AG," says Dr. Horst Harbauer, senior vice president EMEA, Intergraph SG&I. "The GeoMedia Desktop Suite will transform the way DB Netz manages geospatial data, streamline workflows and create consistent, seamless access to enterprise data."

About DB Netz AG

DB Netz AG is the railway infrastructure manager of Deutsche Bahn AG. With around 34,000 employees, it is responsible for the approximately 33,500 kilometre long rail network, including all operationally necessary installations. In 2010, an average of around 2.75m train path kilometres per day were run over the infrastructure of DB Netz AG; that equates to an average of 39,000 trains per day. Thus DB Netz AG was able to generate revenues in the 2010 business year of Euro 4.5b. This makes DB Netz AG the no. 1 European railway infrastructure provider.

The main task is to make available to the around 370 railway undertakings a high-quality, high-availability and non-discriminatory infrastructure and to manage the operation of said infrastructure. This includes the compilation of timetables in close cooperation with our customers and the repair and maintenance of the rail network. In addition, investment in the existing network, in modern command and control technology and in plans for building new lines and upgrading old ones ensures the further development of the rail infrastructure.

The product portfolio of DB Netz AG consists of train paths for passenger and freight transport and of service installations which are necessary for the preparation, post-processing and operation of train movements. The offer is complemented by customer-oriented supplementary and ancillary services.
