Carbon Design Systems and ARM Extend Partnership to Enable Future Generations of Fast, Accurate Virtual Prototypes

ACTON, MA -- (Marketwired) -- May 20, 2014 -- Carbon Design Systems® Inc., the leading supplier of accurate virtual prototype solutions, announced today that its existing intellectual property (IP) modeling agreement with ARM has been extended and expanded to include the latest ARM®-based intellectual property and Fast Model technology.

The original agreement, in place since 2008, enabled Carbon to access ARM register transfer level (RTL) code and create accurate virtual prototypes and virtual prototype models. In the past three years, users have built more than 5,000 accurate ARM models and downloaded hundreds of Carbon Performance Analysis Kits (CPAKs) for software optimization, performance analysis and the development of firmware and driver code. Carbon has worked closely with ARM to integrate these accurate models with ARM Fast Models to deliver its exclusive Swap & Play technology: The ability to execute quickly using Fast Models and then switch to 100% accuracy at any system breakpoint.

Carbon's current virtual prototype solutions feature advanced ARM processors and intellectual property (IP), such as the ARM Cortex®-A50 processor series, ARM Corelink™ NIC-400 system IP, ARM Mali™-T628 graphics and more. They can be found on the Carbon IP Exchange web portal at www.carbonipexchange.com.

"Carbon's unique ability to create virtual models and CPAKs which leverage the speed of ARM Fast Models and the 100% accuracy of Carbonized ARM IP have greatly enhanced designer productivity," comments Rick Lucier, president and chief executive officer at Carbon. "This agreement ensures continuous access to ARM IP and lays the groundwork for future fast and accurate virtual prototype solutions."

"At ARM, we are dedicated to ensuring a fast, reliable route to market for our silicon partners," said Hobson Bullman, general manager of development solutions, ARM. "Extending this agreement to include the latest ARMv8-A processors and related system IP allows Carbon to create accurate virtual prototype solutions for the most advanced IP solutions in the market today."
