DTS-HD Decoder Now Available to Streaming and OTT Box Manufacturers via Amlogic SoC

Amlogic is the first SoC provider to offer DTS-HD decoding capabilities to Android-based OTT and streaming content box manufacturers

CALABASAS, Calif., June 17, 2014 — (PRNewswire) —   DTS, Inc. (Nasdaq: DTSI), a leader in high-definition audio solutions and audio enhancement technologies, and Amlogic, a leading fabless semiconductor company providing solutions for advanced consumer products, today announced the availability of DTS' DTS-HD® audio decoder on the Amlogic quad-core S802-H System-on-Chip (SoC), targeting Android-based streaming and over-the-top (OTT) set-top boxes. The Amlogic S802-H is the first certified SoC solution available to STB and OTT box manufacturers featuring DTS-HD decoding technology.

The DTS-HD decoder SDK was designed from the ground up to support streaming media and over-the-top content delivered in various popular profiles that use the DTS-HD technology. Additionally, the DTS-HD decoder was designed for seamless compatibility with DTS' legacy audio technology formats found on physical disc media, such as DVD and Blu-ray.

Benefits of the DTS-HD Technology:

  • Decoding of the highest quality audio streams available from digital delivery, Video-on-Demand (VOD), OTT and broadcast sources; and
  • Next generation decoding technology that enables equipped products to process more advanced audio, when available, such as:
    • Broader bit stream support for low-bit-rate (LBR) streaming media; and
    • Adaptive streaming to overcome bandwidth, storage and network constraints

"Having an SoC that supports the latest audio formats is just as important to our customers as its ability to support higher resolution video formats," said James Xie, vice president, corporate business strategy at Amlogic. "Our customers look to us to provide SoC solutions that deliver the perfect blend of power, efficiency and features, and we believe that the S802-H does just that. With advanced support for the latest video and audio formats, our customers can utilize the S802-H to deliver streaming and OTT content to customers with video up to 4K, paired with immersive DTS surround sound."

"Amlogic is a popular provider of SoC solutions among our Android-powered STB and OTT box partners, especially in high-growth markets such as China," said Joanna Skrdlant, vice president, solutions licensing at DTS. "As the first certified SoC solution targeting this market for content that uses the DTS-HD technology, we are excited to deploy the S802-H SoC to our partners with Amlogic, and broaden the support for streaming and OTT content mixed and delivered in the DTS-HD format."
