As Havana Contemplates A New Era Of US-Cuba Relations, The Cuban Capital Prepares For The "Havana Art Biennial" InsightCuba Celebrates With Three Tours In May

Seven-day People-to-People Tours Feature Exclusive Meetings with Artists, Access to Live Performances and More

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., March 3, 2015 — (PRNewswire) — It's a new dawn in Cuba since President Obama and President Raul Castro announced their historic efforts to normalize relations after more than 50 years of political divide. And true to form, Cuba's artists will capture the sentiment on the island expressed through their works during the 12th installment of the Havana Art Biennial in May. Supposed to occur every two years, the biennial opted not to hold the month long festival in 2014, as if they had a premonition of things to come. Beginning on May 22nd, the festival will transform Havana into an outdoor performance gallery where dance, theatre, music, cinema and literature will intersect. InsightCuba, the leader in authorized people-to-people travel for US citizens is celebrating with three Havana Art Biennial tours over the month long festival allowing Americans to legally discover Cuba through its art.

"Havana is a city that's naturally captivates the visitor. But never is the fabric of Cuba's vibrant culture on display as it is during the Havana Art Biennial," says Tom Popper, President of insightCuba.

Three small group departures (7 days / 6 nights) on May 22-28th, May 23-29th, and May 25-31st are available for guests looking to embark on Havana's most immersive cultural journey. On each tour, participants will have the unique opportunity to experience the Biennial as an "insider," having unique access to renowned Cuban artists, taking in live performances, and attending artistic presentations. Throughout, a Cuban guide and an insightCuba tour leader will guide every step of the way.

In addition to special meetings with artists, photographers, and biennial exhibitions, highlights of each tour will include a visit Jose Fuster's whimsical wonderland in Jaimanitas, a studio and art community project reminiscent of Barcelona's Parc Guell. Known as the "Picasso of the Caribbean," the prodigy artist has decked an entire neighborhood, including his home, in ceramic. Guests will also meet with the students and professors from La Escuela Taller Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos to learn about the school's work to preserve and restore Cuba's architectural heritage, and in particular, the renovation efforts of Old Havana. Photography enthusiasts will cheer with delight in viewing one of the capital's few darkrooms at Fototeca, while gaining insight into the works of Cuban photographers throughout history. Other highlights include an outing to ISA, Instituto Superior de Arte, Fabrica de Arte- an art-infused, multimedia experience, the Fine Arts Museum, and so much more.

Prices for the three Havana Art Biennial Tours (May 22-28th, May 23-29th, May 25-31st) are $4,195 per person double occupancy. Add $500 for single occupancy.
