MSC Apex Helps Fiedler GmbH to Dramatically Reduce Modeling Time Leading to Faster Overall Product Development

NEWPORT BEACH, CA - Business Wire – November 19, 2015 – MSC Software Corporation, today announced that Fiedler GmbH has achieved a simulation process time savings of approximately 80% with MSC Apex. Fiedler performs mechanical engineering tasks using finite element (FE) analysis methods.

The Fiedler GmbH team is well versed in performing FE calculations. The starting point of such calculations is always the CAD geometry, from which an FE model is created. Especially for complex models, these computational preparations including meshing and geometry preparation are usually the most labor-intensive and error-prone stages throughout the development process. Meshing is hard work without additional insights – and this is where Fiedler identified significant potential to save time with MSC Apex.

The models that Fiedler GmbH works on, including large welding constructions such as frames for mining machines, often include hundreds of thin-walled solids from which the engineers create mid-surfacing models, which are then crosslinked with shell elements. The creation and connection of midsurfaces is very time consuming. With MSC Apex, approximately 80% of this work is done automatically by pressing one button. The manual connection of the remaining surfaces is achieved by interactively drawing edges and moving midsurfaces in the same plane, also more efficient in MSC Apex than traditional programs. Interactive geometry processing is also possible, if the geometry is already meshed. The mesh updates automatically, and the user can directly see the impact of the change in geometry to the mesh.

"By using MSC Apex we can handle our projects economically and our engineers have more time for demanding simulation activities. Quality increases, and we save time and money,” said Peter Siebenbäck, CEO of the Engineering Services Fiedler GmbH.
