With Esri Utility Network Implementations on the Rise, Critigen Delivers Fully Integrated Solution to SJI to Cap Successful IT Driven Project

On March 16, 2020 SJI went live with a comprehensive gas utility information systems implementation.  As part of its acquisition of Elizabethtown Gas and Elkton Gas from Southern Company, SJI implemented 38 enterprise systems including billing, work asset management, customer service, finance, SCADA, GIS and others. Critigen supported SJI in this ambitious program by implementing the latest Esri GIS technology:  ArcGIS Pro, the Utility Network, and the Utility Pipeline Data Model (UPDM 2018).

This complete GIS enterprise build included data migration from the legacy schema; desktop, web, and mobile application deployments; configuration of GIS platform components in a high-availability environment (Portal, Server, Data Store, Monitor); and integration with critical business systems (IBM Maximo EAM and Salesforce).

Partnering with SJI, the Critigen team rolled out this leading-edge enterprise GIS without interruption to business operations – going live the same day that SJI employees began working from home for COVID-19 shelter in place.  Even with this unprecedented change to the planned approach (originally go live was on-site in a “war room”) the rollout went so smoothly via remote support that SJI was able to abbreviate post-go-live “hypercare” support.  Critigen also partnered with Esri who provided system design consulting support.

“Critigen has helped SJI streamline and improve our business operations using GIS – particularly how we manage leaks and how we integrate with work management and customer systems.  Their experience with Esri’s Utility Network helped us deliver a great product to our operations unit and was a key element in the overall success of this program. We appreciate Critigen’s technical and delivery expertise and the way they partnered with SJI staff and each of our consulting vendors.” — Leonard Brinson Jr., VP and Chief Information Officer
