Infotech Enterprises America Engages in “Green” Initiatives to Drive Innovation

Sterling, VA, December 2008 – Infotech Enterprises America, Inc. (Infotech), a leader in providing integrated GIS solutions, is now leading efforts in environmentally conscious, or “green,” business practices. Green initiatives that began at Infotech’s North American headquarters are being implemented at our 12 remote offices. These initiatives will pave the way for green initiatives to be carried over into all our global offices, projects, and technology. Mr. Greg Tilley, Infotech’s Geospatial Division President, noted, “There are a number of reasons for implementing these initiatives. Certainly these initiatives help combat rising energy costs and demonstrate our social responsibility, but the bigger impact is the innovation that has grown from new thinking and implementation of these processes.”

Since 1991, Infotech has been actively engaged in creating and providing environmentally friendly, cost-effective solutions for our clients. To encourage innovation while addressing the environmental issues earlier this year, a “Green Team” was developed within Infotech to help develop innovative and sustainable processes. The Green Team has a goal of identifying new initiatives every month that will reduce cost and positively impact the environment. As further noted by Mr. Tilley, “We believe sustainability helps us attract new customers, retain employees, and innovate in our operations and deliveries. As a leader in the industry we are expected to be innovative in addressing issues of public concern.” The Green Team has promoted best practices among our staff and clients and is aiding our employees to implement green initiatives at home.

Initiatives, such as recycling and video conferencing, that were started as environmental issues have led to more efficient processes for communication with clients, development and delivery of project documentation, increased data security, and better processes for filing and retrieving terabytes of data.

Our clients are reaping the benefits of an eco-friendly streamlined day-to-day business operation. For one client, Infotech recently agreed to implement a Greenhouse Gas Reporting System (GGRS). The purpose is to supply our client information regarding direct and indirect emissions associated with our consumption of electric or thermal energy and indirect emissions associated with anything we acquire to produce our end product deliverables. The information supplied by Infotech will aid our client in meeting their corporate goals and reporting mandates.

With many other ideas ready to be implemented, Infotech is well on its way to becoming a “greener” company. Drew Meren, Infotech’s Green Team spokesman, states, “Infotech has made tremendous strides to deliver our software and data services in a more energy efficient way as well as make the day-to-day company operations more environmentally conscious.”
