Local government roundtable focuses on GIS and CAD integration

June 10, 2009 - Local government IT professionals will seek to bridge the gap between GIS and CAD at a roundtable workshop hosted by Dotted Eyes and Autodesk.

The free breakfast event, at the Royal Armouries in Leeds, will consider the data challenges of closer integration as well as the increased efficiency it can generate.

Among the attendees will be business analysts, design engineers and geospatial managers from local councils and their partner organisations.

Dotted Eyes Managing Director Benjamin Allan said: “This is a free, informal workshop where local government data users can explore the data integration challenges they face every day and explore potential solutions.

“The benefits of cross-functional management of spatial data include greater visibility of project work, safeguarded data integrity and easier data sharing within and between councils.”

One agenda item will be how far the incorporation of CAD into GIS projects can help local authorities meet the data sharing guidelines of the European INSPIRE directive.

The workshop is the latest in a series of events on GIS and CAD since Dotted Eyes became a reseller of Autodesk’s industry-leading AutoCAD Map 3D portfolio earlier this year.

The partnership supports the development of a Dotted Eyes model for integrating CAD and GIS software, the Unified Spatial Environment (USE). This envisages a global set of enabling systems that make it easier for different users to share the same base data, whether GIS or CAD.

The workshop takes place at the Royal Armouries, Leeds, on 25 June 2009 from 8.30am to 11am.

Local government data users can register at www.dottedeyes.com/cadseminar. All delegates will have free entry to the Royal Armouries immediately after the event.
