Bentley Pay-Per-Permit Contract Helps New Jersey Department of Transportation Immediately Adopt Streamlined Online Vehicle Permitting

Online Permitting of Oversize/Overweight Vehicles Will Help NJDOT Better Serve Transport Professionals and Help Protect State’s Transportation Infrastructure

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – 2009 Bentley Roads and Bridges Conference – Bentley Systems, Incorporated, the leading company dedicated to providing comprehensive software solutions for the infrastructure that sustains our world, today announced that it is providing the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) with a transaction-based approach to financing a new SUPERLOAD automated online service for the intelligent permitting and routing of oversize/overweight (OS/OW) vehicles. This public-private partnership will enable New Jersey to implement SUPERLOAD now – at no cost – and pay for it via an automated transaction fee as the service is used. SUPERLOAD will streamline NJDOT’s entire OS/OW permitting process – from application to approval, payment processing, issuance, and reporting – substantially improving service availability and response. Moreover, SUPERLOAD’s intelligent routing will help protect the state’s transportation infrastructure, increasing road safety.

“We are excited that New Jersey will soon have the ability to instantly review and issue online permits for oversized and overweight vehicles,” said Stephen Dilts, Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation. “This system will greatly benefit both our business community and our infrastructure in the state.”

New Jersey processes 120,000 OS/OW permits annually, which brings in $2.3 million in revenue. The Bentley pay-per-permit contract enables the state to pay for its new OS/OW online permitting over four years while continuing to collect permit revenue. The SUPERLOAD online service gives transport professionals the ability to obtain permits 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and does away with the delays caused by multilayered transactions.

“We at Bentley are always looking for new ways to partner with our users and help them create more value as they design, build, operate, and sustain the world’s infrastructure,” said CEO Greg Bentley. “The unique ‘software as a service’ program chosen by the New Jersey Department of Transportation is just one of several new initiatives we are putting in place to help facilitate intelligent, rewarding, and sustainable investment in infrastructure. The program is available to all states and provinces in North America.”

SUPERLOAD, which is widely used in the United States, provides online application, routing, analysis, permit issuance, and secure payment processing. It automates the full workflow, including accounting and credit card transactions, to deliver substantial cost savings to the permitting agency – while saving permit applicants hours and, in some cases, days in the permitting process.

In addition, SUPERLOAD provides direct links to timely structure load rating and condition information. This, coupled with a unique Restriction Manager, enables the intelligent management of construction, incidents, sports events, and similar traffic route restrictions, ultimately helping to protect infrastructure during operation, maintenance, and construction.
