e-Builder Demonstrates Project Management Software Integration Using agcXML at the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) National Convention March 17th

Project management software providers to demonstrate how the agcXML data exchange standard can eliminate interoperability challenges to reduce project costs

Ft. Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) February 22, 2008 – e-Builder, a leading provider of web-based, capital program and project management software, announced today that it will demonstrate the new advances made by the agcXML Project at the AGC’s National Convention in Orlando March 18th, 2010. During the demonstration, e-Builder Enterprise, an owner-centric solution, and Meridian Systems’ Prolog, representing a contractor solution, will simulate the construction change management process and exchange project information in real time using the new information standard. The presentation will demonstrate how the agcXML standard can eliminate the need for duplicate data entry and reduce the inefficiency brought about by a lack of interoperability.

The first data exchange using the agcXML standard took place on December 10, 2008 when when e-Builder and PENTA, in conjunction with the AGC and NIBS, demonstrated how an owner system and a contractor system could exchange information. The demonstration was conducted at the buildingSMART alliance National Conference, in Washington, D.C.

The agcXML initiative aims to address the challenges faced by construction professionals who work together on a project but use disparate project management systems that have no mechanism to share or exchange data. This results in duplicate data entry, increased potential for errors, process delays and ultimately unnecessary cost increases. The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) has worked hard for the last 5 years to establish a common, non-proprietary data format and classification system that will enable design and construction professionals to reliably exchange project information among dissimilar and proprietary software applications without requiring the re-engineering or redesign of those applications. These efforts and this new development will benefit the industry as a whole.

The agcXML initiative and data exchange standards have the potential to significantly improve interoperability across design and construction teams, producing substantial cost and productivity savings for all stakeholders. These challenges were enumerated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology in 2004 through the "Cost Analysis of Inadequate Interoperability in the U.S. Capital Facilities Industry", which highlighted how interoperability costs the industry $15.8 billion in 2002.
