TORONTO – September 30, 2010 – Strengthening its support for Canadian technology businesses, ESRI Canada announced that the company has become a gold sponsor of the York Technology Alliance (YTA). John Kitchen, Vice President and General Manager of ESRI Canada, has also been appointed the alliance's Vice Chair. Established in 1983, the YTA is an economic development cluster that fosters a collaborative community for technology companies and professional services providers in the Greater Toronto Region to connect and grow.

"ESRI Canada has provided board leadership to the York Technology Alliance for many years and supports its focus in developing the technology industry in Canada," said John Kitchen, Vice President and General Manager, ESRI Canada. "In Ontario alone, there are more than 9,000 technology companies generating $25 billion in revenue every year, including global leaders in telecommunications, microelectronics and software development. To build on this leadership, we need to nurture an ecosystem that encourages community members to share best practices and be more reliant on each other to be mutually effective and successful. This will help strengthen our technology sector, stimulate the growth of our economy and increase our region and country's competitiveness."

As Vice Chair, Mr. Kitchen will lead the YTA's membership committee and drive increased participation in the alliance's programs that promote the growth of technology-related businesses. Mr. Kitchen will draw from his extensive experience in helping international and Canadian companies develop and execute their growth strategies. He has driven business development and operations at ESRI Canada since joining the company in 1998. Today, more than 10,000 customers across the country use ESRI Canada's geographic information system (GIS) solutions to increase efficiency and enhance decision making.

ESRI Canada's gold sponsorship will allow the company to share its technology and business expertise with members through the YTA's numerous programs, which encourage practical learning, innovation and collaboration. The company will also provide guidance and direction in fostering peer collaboration, network and knowledge sharing essential to business growth and human resource development.
