Indoor Mobile Mapping, the freedom to map while in motion, from VIAMETRIS

August 02, 2012 -- Exactly one year on from Intergeo 2011, Viametris will return for Intergeo 2012, with a new commercialized version of the 'I-MMS' or Indoor Mobile Mapping System. Last year you may have seen an odd looking device making runs and scanning the interior of hall 7. If not take a look at this video:

We had a prototype version scanning live that had all the technology theories, even if perhaps it wasn't looking quite finished. Many people found this fascinating, and we had a huge amount of interest on our booth. It was our first visit to Intergeo, where we also presented our auto feature extraction software, called MAGELAAN, for traditional outdoor MMS systems. This year we return again with MAGELAAN, yet the most exciting feature being a finalized version of the 'I-MMS'. It will be more dedicated, and more practical for the end user. A complete solution, for Indoor Mobile Mapping.

Compact, lightweight and designed for single use, a real alternative to the lengthy and tedious affair of static scanning.

Practical and truly accurate, allowing freedom to map on the move, as the system is simply maneuvered around the scanning environment. The robust and inherently lightweight structure made from carbon fiber contains all the essential elements, including onboard PC, power system, laser scanners, and 360’ spherical camera. The user simply opens the lid, lifts out the camera on telescopic mount,  switches on the system, then starts the scan. It’s as simple as that. Watch a 2D plan view map appear before your eyes, in real time on the display unit, as you scan the environment.

No GNSS/GPS location because of signal penetration issues (being indoors), and there isn’t any INS or IMU related technologies, ensuring value for money is passed on to the end user.

Instead localization is maintained using our own custom developed SLAM navigation algorithms, from the center Laser scanner.

Data from 2 side mounted LiDAR scanners and a 360° spherical camera are integrated together, producing a colorized 3D Point Cloud, with an accuracy of approx 1-2cm. Most impressive, this is formulated in a time ratio of 2:1 based on the original scanning trajectory log.

Join us at Intergeo 2012 (stand to be confirmed), or watch out for us scanning live the exhibition halls :-). For further info please consult our website www.viametris.fr
