Yotta DCL addresses US highways market with MAP-21 system

April 24, 2013 -- Yotta DCL is helping the North American States meet MAP-21 legislation with its unique visualized asset management solution Horizons. The Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21) will fund more than USD 105 billion for surface transportation programs in the USA and the Act encourages each State to develop a risk-based asset management plan for the National Highway System.

Using Horizons, State highways departments can input and integrate a wide range of asset, condition and social data to give an integrated, visualized perspective on highways assets and their condition. These are mapped digitally and presented in a user-friendly format that not only provides fast interpretation of data by highway engineers it also enables them to show and communicate their findings in a meaningful way to colleagues, officials and public.

By bringing together these datasets into one system that combines GIS, pavement and asset management, engineers can develop efficient maintenance and repair schemes using the most cost-effective treatments that ensure their budgets are maximised.

Developed with continuous input from leading UK highways authorities, Horizons also offers an analysis module that enables engineers to configure various treatment options based on budget or service level expectations. This allows performance targets to be set and the modeling of different scenarios as well as enabling the accurate prediction of highway condition over time. Skid resistance and accident data can also be used by Horizons to model how these have an effect treatment choice.

“Horizons is an ideal software solution for helping the North American States meet their MAP-21 obligations. We have run webinars for our US prospects that have been well received as this product brings data alive for the user and we believe there is nothing else like it on the market. Instead of using disparate applications, it brings together GIS, pavement and asset management into a single unified user-friendly hosted system. This combined functionality allows users to manage multiple sets of data, make cost predictions, plan and model various road maintenance scenarios, build schemes and ultimately, make better, more informed decisions,” says Nick Smee, Yotta DCL’s Managing Director.
