OmniVision's First 1.87-Micron OmniBSI-2™ Pixel Enables Compact CameraChip™ Sensor with Improved Performance

OV9762 Delivers Best-In-Class 720p/30 HD Video with Electronic Image Stabilization to Front-Facing Cameras In Mobile Devices

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 6, 2014 — (PRNewswire) — OmniVision Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: OVTI), a leading developer of advanced digital imaging solutions, launched today the OV9762, a high-performance CameraChip™ sensor designed specifically for front-facing camera applications in smartphones and tablets. The OV9762 leverages OmniVision's first 1.87-micron OmniBSI-2™ pixel to deliver enhanced image quality and best-in-class 720p high-definition (HD) video in a compact package.

"By using this new, slightly larger pixel, we developed an image sensor that offers dramatically improved HD video in a package that is pin-to-pin compatible with the previous generation OV9760," said Archie de Guzman, senior product marketing manager at OmniVision. "As a drop-in replacement to the popular OV9760, the new OV9762 allows smartphone and tablet manufacturers to effortlessly upgrade their existing front-facing camera designs to a top quality 720p HD camera."

Utilizing a new 1.87-micron OmniBSI-2™ pixel, the OV9762 can record 1.3-megapixel (1376 x 960 pixels) video at 30 frames per second (FPS), or best-in-class 720p HD video at 30 FPS with electronic image stabilization (EIS). When binned to VGA resolution (640 x 480 pixels) video, the sensor delivers twice the sensitivity compared to full resolution, ensuring high quality video capture in difficult low-light conditions.

The OV9762 fits into a compact 4.3 x 4.1 mm package and is currently in volume production.
