Exelis and Airbus Defence and Space Modernize the Way Data is Discovered

BOULDER, Colo. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — October 6, 2014 — Exelis ( NYSE: XLS) and Airbus Defence and Space have agreed to offer users of ENVI® image analysis software seamless access to the Airbus Defence and Space catalog of geospatial imagery. With easy access to the worldwide Airbus Defence and Space archive, ENVI users will save time on mission and project planning with the ability to discover needed data and preview images without leaving the ENVI environment.

Under the collaboration agreement, Exelis and Airbus Defence and Space will offer access to Airbus Defence and Space Imagery with any new ENVI or ENVI SARScape license purchased between Oct. 6 and the end of 2014. Current ENVI users will gain immediate access to the catalog via a downloadable plug-in now available at exelisvis.com/airbus. ENVI users can then use the data in hundreds of ENVI routines including change detection, feature extraction, target detection and much more.

“The plug-in lets users easily identify and geolocate thumbnail previews of available imagery within an area of interest without leaving ENVI,” according to Stuart Blundell, general manager at Exelis Visual Information Solutions. “This approach modernizes the way that people will discover data and access new imagery in conjunction with their existing imagery or GIS layers.”

“This agreement between Airbus Defence and Space and Exelis gives ENVI users easy access to a full range of fresh optical and radar imagery. This includes 1.5m SPOT 6 and SPOT 7, and 50cm Pléiades data, giving users more accurate results for their projects and to help them make better decisions,” said Bernhard Brenner, head of the Geo-Intelligence program line of Airbus Defence and Space. “We are excited to see new opportunities developing with this growing partnership between Exelis and Airbus Defence and Space.”

Exelis continues to expand its relationship with Airbus through commercial and defense solutions, including commercial aerostructures. Exelis is currently under contract to supply composite structures on the Airbus A380 aircraft.
