Resolution Games Launches with Aim to Evolve the Virtual Reality Games Industry, Making Virtual Reality Games Everyone Can Enjoy

Company announces founding team and board members, which include industry thought leaders from Silicon Valley to Stockholm

STOCKHOLM — (BUSINESS WIRE) — May 1, 2015 — Today, Resolution Games, the virtual reality (VR) games studio founded by ex King Digital Entertainment games guru Tommy Palm, officially launches and unveils its founding team and board members. The company’s initial efforts will be focused on creating VR games that everyone can enjoy and are accessible for the entire family vs hard-core or AAA titles.

“VR hardware and games are a lot closer than people think. They can create an unprecedented feeling of presence, immersion and a sense of separation from the outside world, which provides a great foundation for making games that can quickly help players feel relaxed and take some time off from their busy lives,” said Tommy Palm, co-founder and CEO of Resolution Games. “We are confident that the veteran team at Resolution Games will be key in helping drive initial games concepts that truly kick things off for the industry and take gameplay within virtual worlds to the next level, showing how wonderful these devices can be for games.”

The company is composed of a team of highly respected game industry veterans, serial entrepreneurs and thought leaders with a proven track record of acclaimed success spanning across mass market and AAA games, free-to-play games, hardware, small team production and more. The founding team includes:

Tommy Palm, long-time Swedish games industry veteran, is the co-founder, CEO and resident “VR Guru” at Resolution Games. Most recently Palm was the spokesperson and games guru of Candy Crush Saga maker King Digital Entertainment, where he worked with the company through to its IPO at a $6B valuation. Prior to that, the company he founded, Fabrication Games, was acquired by King Digital Entertainment in 2012 to provide the platform ultimately used to help the wildly successful company transition to mobile. Palm also founded Jadestone, the Game Trail, Stugan and first learned to program games for Commodore 64 in 1986 with Martin Vilcans, Resolution Games’ CTO.

Måns Ullerstam, COO at Resolution Games, is a pioneer within mobile games, with his company Picofun (launched 1999 and acquired by Aspiro) creating Lifestylers, the first mobile game in the world to breach 1 million users. Most recently he was head of the $100 million Swedish telco, Rebtel.

Martin Vilcans, CTO at Resolution Games, is a veteran game industry developer with more than 30 years of experience across everything from assembly language programming to server clusters working with companies the likes of Goo Technologies, Digital Legends Entertainment and Jadestone Group, which he co-founded with Palm.

Olof Hagelin, technical artist at Resolution Games, formed his tenure in the games industry developing everything from MMO's, mobile games to AAA games the likes of Syndicate and Candy Crush Soda Saga. He also co-founded award winning games company Lockpick Entertainment and worked with global games companies King Digital Entertainment, Starbreeze and Fabrication games.

Carl-Arvid Ewerbring, developer and researcher at Resolution Games, has deep-rooted games and mobile development experience and created the award winning game Spurf among dozens of other concepts and prototypes. He was also founder of Bookl and EEA Consulting.

The corporate board is currently made up of Palm, Ullerstam, John Elvesjö and Linus Gunnarson, among others to be announced. Elvesjö is the founder, deputy CEO and CTO of Tobii, the world’s leading eye control and eye tracking technology company. Prior to Tobii, Elvesjö was CEO and founder of sensor and instrument monitoring company, Jenser Technology, which was acquired by KSV NIMA / Biolin Scientific. Gunnarson is a serial entrepreneur who has worked to guide dozens of startups towards success over the past two decades.

The initial board of advisors include Paul Bragiel, Silicon Valley serial entrepreneur, venture capitalist and managing partner and co-founder of I/O Ventures, and games industry marketing communications veteran, Paul Brady.

“One of the most important takeaways from massively popular mobile games like Candy Crush Saga, is that the majority of all gamers span across many demographics and often prefer light-hearted vs hard-core games,” added Palm. “Also, the emergence of other amazing VR content – like movies and apps – is making the VR platform relevant for all."

Resolution Games will be announcing further details on its upcoming catalog of VR games and additional news in the coming months. Follow the company at www.resolutiongames.com and on Twitter and Facebook.
