Engevix Engenharia Partners to Engineer Santos Guaruja Submersed Tunnel, Reducing Santos to Guaruja Travel Time by 90 Percent(Bentley)

Santos and Guaruja are two of the busiest resort cities in Brazil. They are separated by the Port of Santos – one of the busiest cruise line ports in the world. Today, travel takes 90 minutes between the cities during the peak season. Engevix Engenharia, Themag Engenharia, and Planservi Engenharia undertook the study and design of a first of its kind project in Brazil, a tunnel beneath the harbor. While the tunnel itself is not unique, building the tunnel above ground and then submersing it into place and sealing it is unprecedented. The new 870-meter tunnel will have 950 meters of access ramps and run 21 meters beneath the channel to improve mobility and reduce the average travel time between the cities to two minutes.

Engevix Engenharia’s Director of Infrastructure and ConstructionEduardo Minoru Nagao said, “Bentley software solutions facilitate data processing and streamline project production, meeting the needs of our customers who demand the answers in increasingly short deadlines.”

Engevix Engenharia, Themag Engenharia, and Planservi Engenharia partnered to engineer the BRL 2 billion project. Bentley PowerCivil for Brazil rapidly developed the geometry and visualization for the project. ProjectWise provided collaborative engineering document management for the geographically dispersed teams and ensured data security. The tightly integrated products facilitated interaction among the team, significantly reducing engineering hours on the project.
