Type A Machines, HQ'd at The Gate 510, Announces Breakthrough for Faster, Better, Cheaper Additive Manufacturing With 'Series 1' 3D Printer

SAN LEANDRO, CA--(Marketwired - May 15, 2015) - Manufacturer Type A Machines announces the powerful additive manufacturing capabilities of its Series 1 3D printer on display May 18-21 at the RAPID conference, Long Beach, California.

By demonstrating the simultaneous 3D printing of multiple custom hovercraft in the center of the conference at Booth 772, Type A Machines invites RAPID attendees to experience the guaranteed fidelity from prototype to production that the Series 1 offers. Attendees will be invited to race the hovercrafts and enter to win one of their own; hovercraft will be awarded throughout the conference at an hourly drawing, as well as to the daily winners of RAPID's Rippl3D Challenge.

This low volume, custom 3D printed item is only possible thanks to the nominal cost of entry, the ability to iterate quickly and cheaply, and the guaranteed fidelity from prototype to production which the Series 1 offers. The Series 1 delivers the precision, material capabilities, and ease of operation engineers require, while offering the build volume, ease of service, and uptime needed in a production environment. RAPID Attendees can learn how to buy their very own Series 1 3D Printer, as well as a 3D printed hovercraft, from Type A Machines staff at the RAPID 3D Playground.

The hovercraft was designed by Type A Machines to showcase the strengths of additive manufacturing and the Series 1 3D Printer on a manufacturing line. It was designed, prototyped, iterated, and finally manufactured on the Series 1. This allowed for integrated control surfaces and electronic mount points for the electronics, provided by Punch Through Design and Seeed Studios.

Type A Machines and Seeed Studios are members of the Bay Area Advanced Manufacturing Hub (BAAM), the largest 3D technology coalition under one roof, delivering a complete prototype-to-market manufacturing pipeline; all are members of the tenant community at The Gate 510, a top-ranking incubator/accelerator in Silicon Valley.

"We're showing the Series 1 can deliver parts less expensively, can get your product to market more quickly, and can eliminate the upfront investment traditional manufacturing requires," said Espen Sivertsen, Type A Machines' CEO. "Additive Manufacturing is a rapidly growing portion of all manufacturing and Type A Machines is unique in its ability to offer what manufacturing businesses need," Sivertsen added. "For projects with fewer than 1000 parts such as this hovercraft, and up to 10,000 parts in many cases, no system is faster, cheaper, or more capable than the Type A Machines 'Series 1' 3D Printer."

Cheryl Edison, Creative Placemaker for The Gate 510, states, "Espen Sivertsen, with his open source approach to innovation, exemplifies the entrepreneurial drive that inspired the launch of The Gate 510. Art, tech and maker communities all thrive when synchronistic encounters are curated, linking creativity to new opportunities for commerce."
