Will Wochi Be the Killer Apple Watch App of the Year?

SAN FRANCISCO, Jun. 9, 2015 — (PRNewswire) —

SAN FRANCISCO, Jun. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- With Apple Watch sales exceeding many people's expectations, a burning question has become, what will be the killer watch app of 2015? It seems that app developers are still adjusting to the new hardware, so it's likely that the 'Angry Birds' of watch apps will not emerge until later this summer, or perhaps even the fall. Tracking pre-release announcement and buzz of upcoming watch apps, our money is on Wochi. It already has a small, but rapidly growing, cult following in Asia, and is an increasingly common adoration on schoolgirls' lunchboxes in Japan. Based on the popularity of existing Wochi products, trend-forecasters in Tokyo are predicting that it will be a massive hit this holiday season.

Wochi is a funny, new character coming to your iPhone or Apple Watch later this summer.

So what is a Wochi? It's the virtual pet that every trend-setter will be flashing to their friends this Fall. Feed it. Play with it. And most importantly, win new costumes to dress your pet in. Many costumes are parodies of famous characters ranging from Pikachu to Sailor Moon to Super Man. Rumors have it that pre-orders of custom 'one of one'  costumes have recently reached five-figure amounts - giving owners of the $17K Edition watches all the more reason to show them off.

Alex Paley of Dairy Free Games has confirmed that they have big plans for Wochi apps and the Wochi brand itself. They expect to roll out a string of Wochi apps later this summer, and have a few big surprises planned for later in the year. While Alex remained mum on many details regarding new features, he promised even further integration with Apple Watch sensors as access to them becomes available, and gave us a private preview of the Wochi app running on a virtual reality headset.

We are excited to see what new costumes the guys at Dairy Free Games come up with and, of course, hear about their future plans to expand to virtual and augmented reality platforms. While currently positioned as the next generation Tamagotchi, the Wochi pet may end up replacing real pets well before we know it.
