Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice In 3D Brings Superhero Punch To The Box Office With Approximately 40% Of Estimated $170.1 Million Domestic Opening Weekend

LOS ANGELES, March 27, 2016 — (PRNewswire) —   RealD Inc. announced today that Warner Bros. Pictures' blockbuster film, Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice continued the strong resurgence of recent 3D titles in the marketplace generating  approximately 40% of its domestic opening weekend gross on 3D equipped screens. RealD 3D accounted for an estimated $47 million of the weekend's total $170.1 million domestic box office.

Internationally, approximately 59% of the film's $254 million came from the 3D format led by China (98%), Germany (88%), Brazil (81%), Russia (55%), and France (51%).

Upcoming this year, there is growing excitement for 3D motion pictures as diverse as Jungle Book, Ghostbusters, Captain America: Civil War, Independence Day: Resurgence, Alice Through The Looking Glass, and more.  Audiences will be able to select from more 3D titles this summer compared to last year.

Beginning with Batman V. Superman through Kubo in August, there will be more than 20 3D enhanced motion pictures to choose from, compared to 10 films released during a comparable period last year. In calendar year 2016, 35 releases will be presented in 3D compared to 27 domestic releases in 2015.
