Silvaco’s TCAD Products selected by Segawa Laboratory at the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo for research on Perovskite Solar Cell

YOKOHAMA, Japan , Sept. 13, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Silvaco Japan Co., Ltd. (Silvaco) announced that the Segawa Laboratory at the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo has selected Silvaco’s TCAD device simulator, Atlas, for its perovskite solar cell research project.

The Segawa Laboratory is conducting research aimed at improved performance of next generation organic solar cells, such as dye-sensitized and organic thin film solar cells, which are expected to greatly reduce power generation costs. Among these, organometal halide perovskite solar cells having CH3NH3PbI3 structures have demonstrated noteworthy research results in cell conversion efficiency improvements, along with reduced manufacturing costs due to the development of module manufacturing technology.

Silvaco’s device simulator Atlas, which has a long track record in the optoelectronics field, makes it possible to understand physical phenomena inside a device and make reliable predictions about the behavior of new device structures. The Segawa Laboratory highly rated Atlas’ track record, analysis results and engineering support, and thus made the decision to adopt this tool.

Joint researcher, Professor Satoshi Uchida of the Environment and Energy Sciences Program at the Komaba Organization for Educational Excellence, stated, “In new device development, simulation for analyzing device characteristics plays an extremely important role. Silvaco’s device simulator Atlas will be useful in analyzing hysteresis phenomena resulting from TiO2 interface capacitance. We expect a further acceleration of perovskite solar cell research due to such analyses.”

Silvaco’s General Manager Yoshiharu Furui stated, “We are extremely pleased that a world-leading research organization such as the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology of the University of Tokyo has adopted Silvaco’s TCAD software and appreciates Atlas’ analysis functionality and Silvaco’s technical support. The industry has high expectations for low-cost, high conversion efficiency solar cells in the efforts to realize a low-carbon society. Silvaco’s TCAD products include cutting-edge electrical and advanced optical models, and are widely used in the solar cell development field. Silvaco will continue to contribute to research and development in this increasingly important energy conservation market.”
