DATE 2018 in Dresden: Highlighting Future and Emerging Technologies and Designing Autonomous Systems

October 16, 2017 -- DATE is the top scientific event in Design, Automation, and Test of microelectronics and embedded systems for the academic and industrial research communities worldwide. It provides a unique networking opportunity, bringing together designers and design automation users, researchers and vendors, as well as specialists in hardware and software design, test and manufacturing of electronic circuits and systems.

In 2018, the conference will take place again in Dresden, Germany, after successful editions in 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016. The International Congress Center Dresden with its state-of-the-art conference facilities is located on the banks of the river Elbe and provides a spectacular view of the historic city centre. It is easily and quickly accessible by public transport and within walking distance to downtown Dresden with all its popular sights such as the rebuilt Frauenkirche. The Saxon State capital Dresden is recognized for its cutting-edge technology and economy sector in Germany and abroad. With more than 46 research institutes, various universities, and numerous non-university research organizations, Dresden states an important centre of science. Silicon Saxony is one of Europe’s most successful trade associations for semiconductor, electronic, microsystems, and software industries, with more than 300 members. DATE is cooperating closely with Silicon Saxony to maximize quality visitor attendance to the show and increase visibility of the conference in the region. Dresden, therefore, provides the perfect venue for another successful edition of the DATE conference.

The five day event covers the design process, test, and automation tools for electronics, ranging from integrated circuits to distributed embedded systems. The conference scope includes both hardware and embedded software design issues. It also includes the elaboration of design requirements and new architectures for challenging application fields such as internet of things, multimedia, healthcare, smart energy, and automotive systems.

Two Special Days in the programme will focus on areas bringing new challenges to the system design community: Future and Emerging Technologies and Designing Autonomous Systems. Each of the Special Days will have a full programme of keynotes, panels, tutorials and technical presentations.

The demands of future applications far exceed the capabilities of today’s computing systems, requiring transformative research and development in areas including designing with new devices such as carbon nanotubes, emerging nanosystem architectures, new computation models such as those based on quantum information processing, and emerging application domains such as microfluidics. The special day on Future and Emerging Technologies will address how the DATE community will play a major role in enabling these advances.

Autonomous vehicles and robots are prominent examples for a larger trend towards embedded and cyber-physical systems autonomy, where the current separation of design process and operation in the field will be replaced by a life-time process of in-field adaptation. The special day on Designing Autonomous Systems will cover the latest trends in autonomous systems and the resulting challenges for design processes and EDA tools.

The vivid accompanying exhibition (running from Tuesday to Thursday) provides a unique networking opportunity for vendors of tools and services for the design, development and test of Systems-on-Chip, IPs, Embedded Systems, ASICs, FPGAs and PCBs. Furthermore, it is a great venue for industry representatives to meet university professors and especially for PhD Students to meet their future employers. A full programme in the Exhibition Theatre will again combine presentations by exhibiting companies, best-practice reports by industry leaders on their latest design projects, and selected conference special sessions. Additional hot-spots in the exhibition are the University Booth, where leading universities and research institutes present their latest research results with hardware and software demonstrators, as well as the dedicated European Projects Booth and the Exhibition Campus.

On the first day of the DATE week, in-depth technical tutorials are given by leading experts in their respective fields. The half-day afternoon tutorials are well-suited for researchers, tool developers and system designers. On Friday, workshops concentrate on specialized emerging research and application topics.

Join us in celebrating another exciting edition of the DATE conference!
