May 4th, 2019 10:00 a.m. PT – 700 Items to Auction in One Day
Van Eaton Galleries has announced The Art of Entertainment, a pop culture & Disneyland auction taking place May 4, 2019 beginning at 10:00 a.m. PT at Van Eaton Galleries in Sherman Oaks, California. A striking item included in the collection is a very rare, one-of-a-kind original presentation Nautilus used by Walt Disney in 1954 to promote the feature film "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea". The model can be seen with Walt Disney in television programs and promotional imagery from the 1950s. Constructed by hand from wood, this large Nautilus model was chosen by Walt Disney to introduce general audiences to his historic Nautilus prior to the release of the film.

The iconic imagery of the Nautilus influenced the Disney theme parks, with the fleet from Walt Disney World's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Submarine Voyage" attraction modeled after the Nautilus from the original film. This Nautilus model is an incredible part of the creation and history of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," and holds the distinction of being personally handled by Walt Disney. (Estimate: $20,000-$30,000).

The Art of Entertainment auction also offers hundreds of rare and historic Disneyland artifacts including original art, props, posters, models, theme park booklets, employee handbooks, souvenirs, signs, attraction models, maps, and more.

Exciting Disneyland highlights include: an extremely rare Jungle Cruise Prop Impala Ear Display (Disneyland c. 1955) belonging to the audio-animatronic "Impala" from the attraction (Estimate: $1,500-$2,000); a very rare "Pirates of the Caribbean" original painting (Disneyland c. 1957-1962) created by Imagineer Bruce Bushman during early development of the attraction (Estimate: $3,000-$5,000); a Tom Sawyer Island "North Inlet" wooden sign (Estimate: $1,500-$2,000); a rare "Sailing Ship Columbia" attraction poster (Disneyland, 1958) from Frontierland (Estimate: $8,000-$10,000); a Disneyland child's "Special Guest" ticket book (Disneyland, 1966), with front admission ticket and interior "A" through "E" tickets still intact (Estimate: $200-$400); a Disneyland Tinker Bell 25 year service award (Estimate: $500-$800); an extremely rare "Adventure Thru Inner Space Atommobile" Prop (Disneyland c. 1967), from the attraction (Estimate: $6,000-$8,000); an original "Fantasyland" attraction poster (Disneyland, 1955), featuring Dumbo, the Mad Tea Party, and King Arthur's Carousel (Estimate: $5,000-$8,000); an original Disneyland Hotel Attraction poster (Estimate: $5,000-$7,000); a "Fantasmic!" crocodile model by Kevin Kidney (Disneyland, 1990) (Estimate:$2,000-$4,000) a complete set of 6 near-attraction posters from 1966 (Estimate: $3,500-$4,500); an original Mark Twain and Keel Boats 1955 attraction poster (Estimate: $6,000-$8,000); a "Big Thunder Mountain" 1980 brownline (Estimate: $400-$600); an original 1959 "Matterhorn Bobsleds" attraction poster (Estimate: $6,000-$8,000) and hundreds of other Disneyland artifacts and memorabilia.

"The Art of Entertainment" auction showcases decades of film, television, and print work which has defined pop culture in our lifetime, as well as an extraordinary collection of Disneyland memorabilia. This collection brings together a massive and varied array of art, props, original paintings and drawings, memorabilia, and collectibles from some of the most famous moments in popular entertainment.
