ShareCG.com Honors Big Poster Challenge Winners

February 17, 2010 – Campbell, CA - The recently completed ShareCG Big Poster Challenge asked artists to submit a work of art that lends itself to being blown up and displayed as a poster.  All we asked was that the work be creative and unique.

Our three winners certainly lived up to the challenge, and we felt that we should share a little bit about each of them and show you their entries so you can see for yourself.

But first!  Congratulations to Daniel Arnold Mist for his first place entry; Lautaro Gonzalez for second place, and Carlos Martin for his unique third place entry.  All three winners sent us a photo of themselves along with a brief biography.  We’d like to share them here, in their own words:

First Place - Daniel Arnold Mist - Winner of an HP Z400 Workstation

“I began my discovery of digital art at eight years old, drawing with a mouse on an old Amiga 500+. After studying fine art at university, I entered the games industry as a tester at Electronic Arts, before taking the position of junior 3D artist at Eurocom in England. In 2002 I relocated to China. I decided to continue my artwork by working freelance for games companies. It also opened up time for my personal art style to evolve and improve
My early works were influenced by the great masters. Théodore Géricault was a main inspiration together with Francis Bacon and Edvard Munch. Today I draw my inspiration from the world around me and current artists. Meats Meier is an obvious inspiration. His use of geometry is totally unique, and I try to use his great understanding of negative space within my works. Through my art, I hope to leave behind a little of my mind for others to see.

The image Pandora’s Box is really an evolution of my work over the past 6 years. I have always loved amazingly detailed images, and I like to think I achieve that in my art.

It is a great honor to receive the first prize for the big poster competition. It pushes me to try harder with future pieces. I always strive to create better images, and hope to bring you all more of my mind soon.”

Second Place – Lautaro Gonzalez – Winner of IMSI’s TurboCAD Pro Software

"My name is Lautaro González and I was born in General Villegas, Buenos Aires Argentina in May, 1980. I have lived in La Plata since 1990. Since I was a kid I have loved drawing, from portraits to comics stories. When I was 19 years old I came across with a Spanish Magazine, especialized in all kind of graphic designs, in which I could find 3D designs (which I did not know then that was 3D). So then I started to investigate and to learn about this new design... and in the year 2000 I could buy my first computer. I started to study 3D (3D studio R3) on my own in 2001, since in  Argentina there weren't many places to study 3D, and most of them were really expensive.

According to my needs I learned different sofwares such as Photoshop, Zbrush, and some plugins such as FinalRender, Vray, etc. Since 2007 I have worked freelance as Illustrator and 3D Modeler.

I really appreciate to the judges to have awarded me with the 2nd place.

Thanks a lot!!!"

Third Place – Carlos "Chuck" Martin – Winner of NextLimit’s Maxwell Render Software

“I was born in NYC and used to do a lot of airbrush/spray paint mural's before I got a hold of my first PC.  When I did the first thing I tried doing was to recreate my murals in MSPaint, which wasn’t all that effective.  I then discovered Corel and continued with that for a while mostly pre planning and drafting out my future murals,  I then bumped into poser 4 and got hooked for a couple of  years and today I'm more into modeling, though I still use poser every now and then.”

“I used to participate on a lot of other art sites in the past, but lately I just stay to myself and try to avoid all the "forum based” sites and just create what I haven’t seen :)”

All the entrants did a fabulous job, and we invite you to see their work by clicking this link.

ShareCG will be sponsoring more challenges in the near future and we look forward to be surprised and blown away by great entries once again.
