NeuroSky Announces New Brain to Computer Interface Technologies at San Francisco’s Game Developers Conference

SAN FRANCISCO — (BUSINESS WIRE) — March 11, 2010 — This year the star of the Game Developers Conference® (GDC) is shaping up to be Silicon Valley-based NeuroSky® Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) Technologies.

NeuroSky’s technology promises to revolutionize the traditional gaming paradigm, enhancing interactivity and in many instances, increasing the mental health benefits of game play.

GDC attendees will experience how developers are embarking on the next revolution in gaming through brainwave integration. In addition, they will view the unveiling of NeuroSky’s new bio-command features and next generation headset, specifically designed for gamers. NeuroSky will also be announcing a developer program, to support third party developers in creating or enhancing BCI applications.

New applications will be demonstrated by a number of NeuroSky’s partners, including games within iPhone /mobile, serious, casual and educational, as well as market research applications.

GDC is the world’s largest game industry event. Last year’s NeuroSky booth was easily one of the most popular in the entire conference, with consistently long lines for demos throughout the conference and garnering significant attention from key media outlets.

NeuroSky’s BCI ThinkGear chip is best known for its use in Mattel’s extremely successful Mindflex and Star Wars Force Trainer by Uncle Milton. Both of these toys sold out during the 2009 Christmas season. The Mattel Mindflex also received People’s Play Award, “Best Toy of the Year,” and was rated one of the top five toys for Christmas by Bloomberg.

New product announcements at GDC include:

Mindset Wave Brain Gaming Headset

The new MindSet™ Wave is designed specifically for gamers. As the second product introduction in NeuroSky’s consumer line, the MindSet Wave delivers a lower price point and imaginative new features. Easy to wear and thoughtfully lightweight, it securely fits to enable an active gaming experience. Wireless and self-pairing USB connection make setup and use effortless. MSRP will range from $49 to $99 depending on volume and bundling options. It will ship before the Christmas 2010 holiday season.

Application Developer Program

The NeuroSky Developer Program is the world’s deepest collection of knowledge and instructions for consumer BCI application development. Brain-enhanced gaming experiences are incredibly easy to create from scratch, or to strengthen a current application. Sample code, tutorials, API instructions, support, business development and more can all be found under one roof at http://developer.neurosky.com/.

iPhone BCI Developer Program

BCI is a compelling way to raise iPhone apps above the clutter. Developers within this mobile collection of creativity and innovation can now harness the power of the human brain to educate, entertain and heal. The iPhone App Developer Kit consists of a Bluetooth dongle for the iPhone 30-PIN connector.

Blink Capture

A brilliantly simple user input tool, NeuroSky Blink Capture™ enables application command and control protocol. Blink and something happens. The larger the eyeblink, the larger the value reported by the meter. To demonstrate Blink Capture capabilities, NeuroSky’s BlinkZone Demo App is driven by human eyeblinks.

Zone Meter

Athletes understand ‘the zone.’ Video gamers feel ‘the zone.’ For the first time, ‘the zone’ can be quantified and harnessed. A proprietary combination of mental attention with balanced relaxation, the Zone Meter™ will add a dimension to video games.

Sync Meter

With NeuroSky's new Sync Meter, actively compare your brainwave patterns with friends while sharing the same experience. The Sync Meter is a way to share a brain-computer interface experience with a partner and compare mutual reactions of brain waves while viewing a movie, listening to music, or playing a game.

NeuroSky BCI is not limited to games. NeuroSky technology is now being incorporated into products within automotive, healthcare, education and more. With such universal innovation, NeuroSky’s games and other applications are sure to have an impact in a variety of arenas in the coming years.
