Neira is tormented by her grief and by conflicting emotions. She hates the king and blames him for her woeful circumstance, but she also feels desire for him. The king is a contradiction to her. On the one hand, he is kind and gentle with everyone, especially herself. Yet, as she sees it, it was his minions doing his bidding who murdered her family.
