I'm just trying out Blender.  I'm starting to get the hang of the UI, but one thing I can't find info on is how to open a second model into a scene, or how to start a new scene after opening a file.  Whenever I try, the "install file" is either missing or greyed out.

Adding another blender object is called appending, or linking.  Select File->Append.  Then select the mesh, object, etc. of the object you want.
