Macworld | iWorld Premieres Film Event Celebrating Impact of Apple Technology on Film and Television

Film Event Includes iPhone Film Festival, South Park Premiere, Exclusive Screenings and Tech Talks Focused on Film Creation Using Apple Technologies

FRAMINGHAM, Mass., Dec. 1, 2011 — (PRNewswire) —   IDG World Expo today announced a full program of film events debuting at Macworld | iWorld, including: the iPhone Film Festival where winning filmmakers will showcase movies made entirely on iPhones; an exclusive screening of the full-length, unaired South Park pilot episode followed by a Q&A with South Park Studios staff; additional screenings of films developed exclusively for the event; and a series of educational and highly interactive Tech Talks with directors, filmmakers and technical experts about the creative and technical processes related to iPhone and iPad film creation, including production, editing and distribution. Collectively, the elements of the Film Event celebrate the broad and varied ways that Apple technologies are redefining film and television.

The Film Event complements a full slate of traditional Macworld | iWorld programs, including a robust exhibit floor featuring hundreds of companies showcasing the latest in software, hardware, peripherals, accessories and applications for the Apple products platform, networking events and meet ups, unique shopping opportunities, and workshops and Tech Talk covering everything from leveraging Apple tools for photography and education to increasing productivity and enjoyment with OS X Lion, iOS 5, iCloud and Siri. Elements new for 2012—including Music Experience performances and art showings—will continue to be announced and added to in the coming weeks. Macworld | iWorld will take place January 26January 28, 2012, at the Moscone Center – West Hall in San Francisco.

Highlights include:

  • The iPhone Film Festival (IFF), started by a filmmaker for other filmmakers, is designed to give artists an avenue to showcase films created on iPhones. Macworld | iWorld and the producers of the successful Festival will host filmmakers from around the world as they debut their award-winning works for attendees. Screenings will be followed by Q&As with filmmakers on the creative process behind iPhone film making.

Featured films include: " The Fixer" by Luis Mieses, Spain, Best Film 1st place winner at IFF2; " Angels" by Lindi Ortega, USA, Best Music Video winner at IFF2; " La Valigia" by Wonsuk Chin, South Korea, Best Film 3rd place winner at IFF1; and " Remembrance" by Craig Anthony Perkins, USA, Best Film 2nd place winner at IFF1.

Luis, Lindi, Wonsuk and Craig will also showcase never-before-seen films produced exclusively for Macworld | iWorld.

Additional screenings include: " Yearlapse" by Zsolt Haraszti, " Glimpses from my iPhone to the sounds of Bollywood bites" by The Film Artist, and " The Editor" by Chris Nong.

  • Exclusive screening of the full-length, unaired South Park Pilot episode followed by a mind-blowing, myth-dispelling Q&A with South Park Studios show staff. 
  • The Making of South Park -- Inside South Park's Animation Studio, a special session that takes you behind the scenes of South Park Studios. An acclaimed panel of presenters—including Producer Eric Stough, Animation Producer Ryan Quincy and Chief Technology Officer David Lenna—will give Macworld | iWorld attendees insight into how the iconic animated series leverages Macs to produce each episode. Attendees will also get an inside view into the show's production and technology pipeline that allows the show to turn an idea into a full 22-minute episode in one week.  
  • Filmmaker Tech Talks—led by directors, filmmakers and technical experts—will offer attendees unique educational opportunities on ways to leverage and maximize Apple and related tools for film making, editing and distribution. Sessions will cover topics including: And I Think to Myself…What a Wonderful (Mac) world with Wally Cherwinski, videographer at Magic 22, which will take attendees through a high-energy video tour of recent Macworld Expos while helping creative users hone their video skills and get more out of their Macs, camcorders or iOS devices; iShotThat! – A Crowd Sourced Film with John Turner, chief technologist at Assistronics, LLC, which offers attendees the opportunity to submit footage that a team of editors will edit into a short, crowd-sourced film to be released at the end of the event; and Get Started or Improve Your Techniques Making Stop-Action Movies with iStopMotion with Gordon Straub, Claymation movie creator and director/producer at Moose Movies, a session that will offer attendees an opportunity not only to learn the ins and outs of iStopMotion, but also how to model clay characters, build a stage, use a blue screen to superimpose backgrounds, develop stories and scripts, and record or create a soundtrack.
