SpaceClaim Engineer Links Directly to Aptia

CONCORD, MA and NOTTINGHAM, UNITED KINGDOM -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Feb 21, 2012 -- SpaceClaim ( www.spaceclaim.com), the leader in direct modeling software that enables all engineers to work in 3D, and Aptia Solutions ( www.aptiasolutions.com), the leader in automatic nesting software, announced today the immediate availability of the SpaceClaim Nesting Plugin, a nesting environment built-in to the SpaceClaim user interface. This integration puts Aptia's innovative nesting technology at the fingertips of designers and engineers who rely on SpaceClaim to create and prepare models for sheet metal fabrication, shipbuilding, composite fabrication, laser cutting, waterjet cutting, and other 2D nesting applications.

The SpaceClaim Nesting Plugin creates a new tab in SpaceClaim that presents all options required to nest and, when running, presents a window that shows nesting progress in real time. Once the nesting is satisfactory, the appropriately populated sheets appear as new components, suitable for export to CNC via DXF, DWG, 2D PDF, and many other formats.

"We're excited to deliver one of the first CAM products on top of SpaceClaim," said Glenn Whitwell, Managing Director, Aptia Solutions. "SpaceClaim is taking a leadership position in sheet metal design, not to mention other flat fabricated goods. We saw an incredible opportunity to provide a nesting plugin within the SpaceClaim environment and expand our existing product range. The plugin enables designers to get their parts from design to manufacture much faster by making nesting a seamless part of the process and the fact that this all takes place within SpaceClaim in one program is a real benefit to the user. Integrating with the SpaceClaim API couldn't have been easier."

"The SpaceClaim Nesting Plugin presents an exciting addition to the SpaceClaim ecosystem," added Rich Moore, SpaceClaim's Vice President of Business Development. "Our ability to quickly create, edit, and repair 3D data and produce flat patterns is becoming critical to many manufacturers' workflows, and Aptia's nesting plug-in further accelerates the rate of production. We're thrilled that Aptia has decided to partner with us and our customers."
