MHL Consortium Names Winners of “Go Big or Go Home!” Game Developers Contest at GDC

FDG Entertainment’s “Beyond Ynth HD” Takes Top Prize

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — March 16, 2012MHL, LLC, the entity responsible for administering the MHL Consortium and the adoption, licensing and promotion of the MHL™ (Mobile High-Definition Link) specification, has announced the winners of the 2012 “ Go Big or Go Home!” Game Developers Contest. On March 8, the top 10 submissions were demonstrated in front of a live judging panel at the Game Developers Conference® (GDC) in San Francisco, with “ Beyond Ynth HD” taking first place.

Leveraging MHL technology — an HD audio and video wired connectivity standard that enables a mobile device to deliver 1080p uncompressed video with up to eight channels of digital audio with zero latency — mobile game developers can create exciting games that can be enjoyed not only on smartphones and tablets, but also the big screen. MHL-enabled DTVs and displays also provide power back to the mobile device when connected, so gamers can play their favorite apps on a DTV without draining their mobile device battery.

About the Winner

Winning the grand prize, the “ 2013 GDC Experience,” Beyond Ynth HD is described as being an Android game full of smooth, high-resolution graphics and addictive, physics-based puzzle play. Gamers help Kribl, a bug on a big journey to bring light back to the Kingdom of Kriblonia, navigate uncharted territories to find the light-giving ‘Dazzly Diamonds’ that were stolen by the Four Dark Spiders of the Apocalypse. “ Babel Rising 3D,” by Advanced Mobile Applications was named runner-up with “ Fieldrunners HD” by Subatomic Studios taking third place.

Criteria

Nominated companies were judged and reviewed on the following criteria:

  • Graphics: How well the graphics could scale from the small screen to the big screen.
  • Sound: How immersive the sound was and the quality of soundtracks.
  • Innovation: How creative and innovative the game was in highlighting and utilizing MHL technology.
  • Differentiation: How the game highlighted MHL technology compared to other games in the Android marketplace.
