Vero and TST to Showcase VISI at Amerimold 2013

June 7, 2013 - Vero Software, a global leader in the design and development of CAD/CAM solutions will showcase its VISI software through its reseller TST Software during Amerimold 2013, June 12 – 13, at the Donald E. Stephens Center, Rosemont, IL.

Amerimold, a two-day business trade show connects moldmakers, OEMs, and rapid product development professionals. Visitors to the VISI/TST booth ( Booth 113) can view the benefits of 5-axis machining for mold and die machining, as well as the benefits of a completely integrated 2D and 3D design system with the most powerful and advanced solid and surface modelling techniques available today.

Knowledge Center South, Plastic Product Design Principles:
On Wednesday June 12, 2013, 3:00pm – 4:00pm, Jim Kesteloot, President, TST Tooling Software Technology, LLC will present during a knowledge center on design principles for plastic products.Jim Kesteloot is president of TST Tooling Software Technology.

“Molded components have changed the shape of everyday items – lighter, recyclable, and aesthetic design. 3D CAD/CAM systems have facilitated the evolution of product design, and as a result, ever-increasing geometry complexity,” Kesteloot says.

The objective of this presentation is to look at some key product design principles that will eliminate uncertainty and ensure manufacturability for your next project. While each of the points are generic and cannot be applied to every scenario, they provide a solid base from where to start your next design. consistent wall thickness, draft angle, boss design, rib design, part radii, part text, undercuts, side holes, living hinges, gate position, and material choice.

VISI:
The latest release of VISI software introduces many new technological features in all areas of the product, with continued emphasis on solutions for mold-, tool-, and die-makers. VISI offers a unique combination of applications, fully integrated wireframe, surface and solid modelling, comprehensive 2D, 3D, and 5 axis machining strategies with dedicated high speed routines. Industry specific applications for plastic injection tool design including material flow analysis and progressive die design with step-by-step unfolding provide the toolmaker with unsurpassed levels of productivity.

The wide range of significant CAD enhancements, which can be seen at booth 113, introduce a new 'collaboration mode' allowing multiple users to work on the same project dataset. Other improvements include the ability to assign constraints to geometrical bodies (Concentric, Parallel, Coincident, Distance, etc.) providing the tools to simulate the real movement of tooling and check for collisions. In addition, CAD translators have been updated to include support for Solid Works and Solid Edge assemblies, and support for PTC Creo and JTopen B-rep entities.

VISI 20 contains many innovative developments including the ability to distribute the toolpath computation onto different machines connected to the same private network. This technology uses 'Distributed computing', where the computers interact with each other to achieve a common goal. The main advantages are that the combination of slave computers can produce a similar computing resource to a multi-processor, super-computer and keep the master PC free from heavy calculations. The ability to share the computing processes across the network is a unique advantage, producing massive time and cost savings for the end user, with reductions of more than 200% with a number of slave PC's in use.

New toolpath algorithms include a new hybrid roughing strategy, improved auto rest machining, new multi-axis flank milling and new multi-axis roughing machining. The new roughing strategy is based on hybrid machining technology that allows the system to massively reduce the rapid moments, avoid tool plunging into material, optimise stepover in excess of 50% and propagate high speed transitions and movements avoiding feed reduction while machining.

Concluding, Marco Cafasso, VISI Development Manager, explains the rationale behind some of the recent developments. "When dealing with imported data we fully recognise the need to work as efficiently as possible with the data provided, and we focus a great deal of effort on improving the operator work-flow. It is this in-depth understanding of our customer processes that makes VISI one of the leading CAD/CAM systems for the mold and die industry."
