ARM® and Cypress University Education Programs to Partner on Activities Focused on Cypress’s PSoC® Architectures with ARM Cortex M-Series Cores

Two Established Programs Begin Collaboration on PSoC Lab and Workshop in China;
Both Exhibiting at ASEE Conference

SAN JOSE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — June 25, 2013 — Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (Nasdaq: CY) today announced it has partnered with ARM® to collaborate on university education activities focused on Cypress’s PSoC® programmable system-on-chip architectures based on ARM Cortex®-M series processors. The Cypress University Alliance and ARM University Program both have established track records of partnering with universities around the world to supplement electronic engineering programs, including sponsoring workshops, labs, coursework materials and equipment. As part of the agreement, Cypress and ARM are jointly building an ARM-based PSoC lab for engineering students at the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), and they will hold a professors’ conference in Beijing on June 29, 2013.

Both university programs are represented at the 120th American Society of Electrical Engineers (ASEE) Conference and Exposition at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia from June 23-26. Cypress is in booth number 647, while ARM is in booth number 707.

“ARM is pleased to be working with Cypress on global university outreach and educational activities,” said Khaled Benkrid, manager, Worldwide University Program, ARM. “The ARM University Program and the Cypress University Alliance have built strong connections at top engineering education institutions around the world. Together, we will enable engineering students to become familiar with ARM Cortex-M-based architectures, as it is this technology that is at the heart of the world’s smart, connected electronics products. We welcome all aspiring electronics engineers to embrace this valuable base of skills and knowledge, from which the next generation of exciting, low power technologies is set to emerge.”

Cypress’s recently introduced PSoC 4 architecture employs the ARM Cortex-M0, while the PSoC 5 architecture is powered by the Cortex-M3.

“Joining forces with ARM on PSoC-focused university programs is a natural fit,” said Patrick Kane, director of Cypress’s University Alliance. “We’re off to an exciting start already with the building of a PSoC lab for the up and coming engineers at the Beijing Institute of Technology, and we look forward to jointly hosting workshops and other activities there and at the top engineering schools all over the world.”

The ARM University Program provides its training material and software tools, including the Keil MDK-ARM (Micro-controller Development Kit) Software Tools, free of charge to qualifying institutions to support teaching, laboratory work and educational research projects. Faculty requests for these materials should be addressed to Email Contact.

PSoC – Because Change Happens

PSoC solutions bring the flash-based equivalent of a field-programmable ASIC to embedded designs without lead-time or NRE penalties. PSoC integrates configurable analog and digital circuits with an on-chip microcontroller, reducing component count and simplifying revisions. A single PSoC device can integrate as many as 100 peripheral functions, accelerating cycle time and improving quality while reducing board space, power consumption, and system cost.

PSoC “future-proofs” designs, protecting them against last-minute specifications changes. It enables firmware-based changes at any point in the design cycle—even out in the field. All PSoC devices are dynamically reconfigurable, enabling designers to transform resources on-the-fly and to execute tasks with fewer ICs.
