Spotlight on New Material Requirements and Outlook for Memory, Logic, MEMS, Beyond-CMOS Devices, and More — at the SEMI Strategic Materials Conference 2013

Keynotes and Final Agenda Announced

SAN JOSE, Calif. — September 23, 2013 — The 2013 SEMI Strategic Materials Conference (SMC) will include focused sessions and tracks on the advanced material outlook for semiconductor memory, logic, MEMS, and beyond-CMOS devices such as new graphene and carbon-based devices and printed/flexible electronics. Held on October 16-17 at the Santa Clara Marriott in Silicon Valley, California, SMC offers views from leading market analysts, global manufacturers, industry consortia, top suppliers and academic researchers on the critical trends and emerging applications for advanced electronics materials.  The Strategic Materials Conference ( www.semi.org/smc) is the only conference dedicated to advanced electronic materials, providing valuable forecasting information, insights into application trends, and a networking forum for collaboration among all sectors of the advanced materials supply chain.

 Keynote speakers at SMC include:

  • Gregg Bartlett, senior VP and CTO of GLOBALFOUNDRIES, will provide insights into the new demands for collaboration in materials-enabled ICs.
  • Jo de Boeck, Ph.D., senior VP and CTO of imec, will discuss research imperatives and development challenges in new materials.
  • Laurie E. Locascio, Ph.D., director of Material Measurement Lab, NIST; co-chair of Materials Genome Initiative, will introduce the U.S. government’s innovative program to accelerate and support new materials development.

Dedicated program tracks include “Nanometrology in the Nines,” “Carbon-based Materials in Semiconductor and Other Market Applications,” “Materials for MEMs” and “Materials Development in Printed and Flexible Electronics.”  The Nanometrology session will examine the increasing challenges to materials characterization and analysis confronting new device development, and leading R&D consortia and equipment manufacturers will discuss the dynamic changes to traditional industry collaboration models. Special sessions will also address material trends and challenges in memory, and beyond-CMOS devices including spin electronics and nanoscale multiferroics. Other presentations will address material issues and opportunities in wide-bandgap power devices, networking and high performance computing, and disk drives.  Leading market analysts will also provide market forecasts and trend analysis and key advanced electronic materials.
