SINGAPORE CONTINUES GOOD SHOWING AT INTERNATIONAL SOLID-STATE CIRCUITS CONFERENCE 2014

Singapore, 14 November 2013 – The International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) held its press conference on Monday, 11 November for ISSCC 2014 in conjunction with the Asian Solid-State Circuits Conference (A-SSCC), which takes place for the first time in Singapore. Singapore continues its good showing in the field of integrated circuits and semiconductor chip research and will present at ISSCC 2014, 3 papers from the A*STAR Institute of Microelectronics (IME), MediaTek Singapore and the National University of Singapore (NUS).

ISSCC is the flagship conference for the field of integrated circuits and systems design and is the leading international platform for presenting the latest technological breakthroughs in solid-state circuits and systems-on-a-chip. For ISSCC 2014, it will delve into novel systems and circuits solutions for a truly connected world, with the theme of “SILICON SYSTEMS BRIDGING THE CLOUD”.

Connectivity is undeniably one of the most highly anticipated technological trends for the next generation and cloud computing technology is seen as the technology means to achieve a high level of networking and integration. However, the demand for flexible computing power, shared software applications and centralized databases brought by the cloud computing platform is necessitating the need to develop novel approaches and capabilities in communications, network and data storage.

Singapore has a strong interest in the development of IC technologies for cloud computing and future mobile society based on its strong capabilities in more-than-Moore technologies. ISSCC 2014 recognizes the contributions and vibrancy ofSingapore‟s advancements in this field through the acceptance of 3 high-quality papers from Singapore, presented as below:

A 60Mb/s Wideband BCC Transceiver with 150pJ/b RX and 31pJ/b TX for Emerging Wearable Applications,” Institute of Microelectronics, Singapore; National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan

“A Self-Calibrating NFC SoC with a Triple-Mode Reconfigurable PLL and a Single-Path PICC-PCD Receiver in 110nm CMOS,” MediaTek, Singapore; MediaTek, USA

“A 32kb SRAM for Error-Free and Error-Tolerant Applications with Dynamic Energy-Quality Management in 28nm CMOS,” University of Calabria, Italy; University of Michigan, USA; National University of Singapore, Singapore

“ISSCC, being an internationally prestigious conference, is the platform for integrated circuits and systems design community in Singapore to make known our R&D capabilities and let Singapore be internationally recognized as a world class design house. I believe that the academia, research institutes and industry in Singapore will continue to work together to raise our profile in ISSCC through the continued submission of high-quality papers,” said Prof. Dim-Lee Kwong, Executive Director of IME, A*STAR.

We are very pleased to see that Singapore IC design community provides strong support and great contribution to ISSCC and A-SSCC, both of which are very important platforms that will advance the state of the arts in the area of solid-state circuits and systems. Especially, this year, A-SSCC is for the first time, being held in Singapore, marking also the first time for A-SSCC to be hosted outside of the 4 founding countries, Taiwan, China, Korea and Japan. We have no doubt that A-SSCC 2013 will be successful and all participants will greatly enjoy the environment and atmosphere of this fascinating city,” said Prof. Kazutami Arimoto, ISSCC Far East Regional Chair.

We want to gratefully acknowledge the recognition given to Singapore's achievements in semiconductors by the ISSCC organizing committee holding its press conference in Singapore,” said Mr. Fan-Yung Ma, IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society Singapore Chapter Former Chair. “Singapore's semiconductor engineering community recognizes the important role of ISSCC in fostering technical excellence and recognizing innovation as we face the challenge of the end of Moore's Law and the opportunity of the internet of things. We look forward to a very successful ISSCC in 2014.

ISSCC 2014 will take place in San Francisco from Feb 9 to Feb 13, 2014. For more information, please visit http://isscc.org/

About International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC)

International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) is the foremost forum for presentation of advances in solid-state circuits and systems-on-a-chip. The Conference offers a unique opportunity for engineers working at the cutting edge of circuit design to learn of the latest advances, and to network with leading experts. It is referred to as the „Chip Olympics‟, because this is where major organizations in the chip industry and academia unveil their record-breaking designs. Among submissions from all over the world, only about 200 top papers are selected for presentation and about 3,000 people from industry and academia attend the conference. The most important milestones in the integrated circuit and semiconductor history have been first presented at ISSCC for the last 60 years – e.g. TTL (transistor-transistor logic) circuit (1962), integrated analog amplifier circuit (1968), 1kb DRAM (1970), CMOS electronic wristwatch (1971), 8-bit microprocessor (1974), 32-bit microprocessor (1981), 1Mb DRAM (1984), 1Gb DRAM (1995), Integrated GSM transceiver (1995), 1GHz microprocessor (2002), Multi-core microprocessor (2005), and so on. The ISSCC will be held on February 9-13, 2014, San Francisco, CA, USA under the conference theme of „Silicon Systems Bridging the Cloud‟. For more information, visit http://isscc.org/
