About Jereme Smith:
As the founder and Principal of Design Insight Inc., Jereme Smith produces custom architecture and interiors by counter-balancing graceful design concepts with durable built work.
Smith obtained his master’s degree in architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. During his tenure, he won many accolades, including induction into the Gargoyle national honor society, receipt of two fellowships, and the opportunity to live abroad in Versailles, France for a year to experience and study European architecture.
Prior to founding Design Insight Inc. in 2002, Jereme worked for a variety of prominent architecture and custom furniture firms. Most notably, Kenyon & Associates Architects, Techline Inc. and Osterhaus McCarthy Architects. He’s won numerous awards in the
architectural and furniture design arena, including the Chicago ‘Key to the Future’ housing competition and the New York Humanscale office design competition.
Smith has worked intensely on various large and small scale projects. These range from a 9000 sq. ft. commercial loft for a media firm to furniture and lighting pieces displayed in galleries throughout Illinois, such as I.D., Meble, and the Illinois Artisans Association.
With a concentration on custom residential work he has become recognized as a dedicated, passionate designer who pushes the limits of the ordinary. With a self-sufficient, eco dream house, a light-filled, sun-room addition and a contemporary log cabin commission to his many credits, Jereme works to infuse both environmentally conscious design with inspirational ingenuity.
Jereme has been published and highlighted in various local and regional publications such as the Chicago Sun Times, Chicago Home magazine, I4 Design magazine, and others. His work has been displayed at the W Hotel through the IDSA, at the Art Museum of Western Virginia as part of the C2C eco-home exhibit, and even at a fashion show for wearable architecture.
Smith has his architectural license (plus many CE credits), as well as architect/engineer and design/builder insurance. Jereme is also a member of the Association of Licensed Architects.(ALA) This versatile and experienced designer has a passion for his work at the purest level and works to improve, invent, and inspire in everything he does. Design Insight is looking to the future with larger scale work that retains its smaller scale roots.
