PLM International Research Foundation calls for industrial support

Oxford, England. October 08, 2014 -- There has been worldwide academic support for the proposal to establish a new PLM International Research Foundation that can fund advanced research into Product Lifecycle Management.

The PLM-IRF Survey of researchers at leading universities received 44 responses from 28 countries, and identified 21 areas in which the PLM of the future could transcend today's constraints. ( MCADCafe Oct. 02).

It is now important for industrial companies to show that they have the vision and ambition to take advantage of these new possibilities. PLM is a business improvement discipline for industrial companies; and industrial companies are always looking to advance, be more effective, compete or even transform.

If the PLM International Research Foundation is funded it will create a single PLM research programme that unifies the globe. This force needs to be directed for the good of the manufacturing and product-related companies that will benefit from it.

That is why the PLM-IRF is calling for industrial companies to engage with this initiative. Academic vision will not be enough. There needs to be some clear industrial engagement and direction so that the new research is real and valuable.

A new Proposal has been published that aims to set up an open discussion meeting in Europe by the end of January, with possible follow-on discussions in the USA, China and India. Industrial companies are invited to add their input.

If you would like to know more, there is more information about the PLM-IRF on the PLMIG web site; and copies of the Survey Results and the Proposal can be obtained via Email Contact.
