Palm Springs Art Museum Curator's Best Book Recognition Tied to New Architecture and Design Center

Curator recognized for "E. Stewart Williams: An Eloquent Modernist" catalogue while new Architecture and Design Center attracts worldwide attention.

PALM SPRINGS, Calif., Jan. 19, 2015 — (PRNewswire) —   Palm Springs Art Museum is proud to announce that Sidney Williams, Curator of Architecture and Design, has been recognized by the leading industry publication, Architectural Record, for the exhibition catalogue An Eloquent Modernist: E. Stewart Williams, Architect. The new Palm Springs Art Museum Architecture and Design Center, Edwards Harris Pavilion opened with this exhibition and has garnered worldwide interest as a destination for serious midcentury modern enthusiasts.

Williams' book details the life of E. Stewart Williams, responsible for iconic midcentury buildings in and around Palm Springs, while sharing insight into his ideas about site-specific architecture and integrating buildings with the local environment.

Notably, Sidney Williams spearheaded the vision for the new Architecture and Design Center which was in the works several years prior to its recent opening in November 2014. It is a classic midcentury structure retaining a Class 1 Historic Site status. It was originally Santa Fe Savings & Loan, designed in 1961 by E. Stewart Williams, and the opening exhibition is appropriately An Eloquent Modernist, E. Stewart Williams, Architect, celebrating his 50-year career defining desert modern style.
