Mazda and Mindshare Debut 3D Ad Technology from Cxense

New display ad technology brings the venerable web banner back to life

OSLO — (BUSINESS WIRE) — January 20, 2015 — Grabbing the attention of web site visitors is not easy, but now Japanese car manufacturer Mazda debuts as the first advertiser to deploy 3D advertisements using parallax effects.

“It is always exciting to try something new and innovative. Mazda is an unconventional carmaker with an ambition to do things differently,” says Lisbeth H. Nygren, Marketing Communication Manager, Mazda Motors Norway. “We are not only focused on stylish design and the latest technology in our cars, we like to be innovative in everything we do and 3D ads are a perfect way to promote our cars. We are thrilled to be among the first companies in the world to display our cars using this new 3D technology.”

The 3D advertising technology, announced late last year by Cxense, uses an optical illusion to create an image that seemingly stands out from a web page. The 3D advertisements use standard web technology and work on any browser across mobile and desktop devices.

The 3D ad technology is rejuvenating the banner ad in a time where advertisers are looking for creative solutions for their display advertising needs. Grabbing the attention of the reader is key, but it is equally important that the technology is non-intrusive. Skipping the need for complex video solutions or sound, the 3D ads can be used on nearly any web site to boost an ad’s effect. Design magazine PSFK called the ad effect “visually stunning.”

Get creative

“The 3D ads running on the Cxense ad server is one of the coolest and most innovative ad solutions I have seen in a long while,” says Tomas Tomasi, Digital Director, Mindshare Norway. When it learned about the 3D ad capability, Mindshare Norway wanted to create the world’s first syndicated 3D ad. The global media agency approached the leading car manufacturer Mazda to bring the technology to life.

“Presented with the opportunity to be one of the first agencies in the world to use this technology, Mazda was the first customer we had in mind. The Mazda3 is the perfect car to be promoted in 3D on a website,” said Tomasi.

Working closely with Cxense and the Danish creative agency Halbye Kaag, the 3D models were turned into highly effective 3D parallax advertisements. The resulting ads will be distributed across Amedia sites in Norway, reaching hundreds of thousands of readers throughout the country.

Get started

3D ads are available from Cxense through the Cxense Advertising product suite. Using and displaying 3D ads is possible on any mobile and web site through the use of ad tags either from the Cxense Advertising suite running on the site, or through media agencies that license Cxense technology and utilize third party ad tags.
