Utilities Increase Efficiency and Data Quality with SAP Integration Module from Intergraph®

Sacramento Municipal Utility District latest to realize benefits from business systems integration

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., June 17, 2015 — (PRNewswire) — Multiple utility companies around the world, including Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), have successfully deployed Intergraph's SAP integration module. The integration module connects Intergraph G/Technology®, a geographic information system (GIS) specifically designed for utility companies, to SAP applications, improving the integration and management of core IT processes and business functions, including asset and work management.

The Web Services-based integration module removes the need for point-to-point interfaces between systems, which are costly to implement, maintain and upgrade. It enables enterprise application integration through any service oriented architecture (SOA)-based integration platform, such as SAP PI, Software AG webMethods, Microsoft BizTalk and Oracle SOA Suite. The integration module supports a range of different integration points with SAP.

"Moving from a hard-coded, point-to-point interface to a modern Web Services integration solution provides us with tremendous configuration flexibility and allows for future extensibility," said Marty Katz, director, information technology projects and applications, SMUD. "We are already seeing benefits through the deployment of the Intergraph-SAP integration."

The integration module enables dynamic connections between core systems and information. For example, if a utility network asset is added to or updated in the G/Technology database, it is also automatically modified in the SAP database, and vice versa, creating business efficiencies and ensuring the currency and consistency of data needed to support operational decisions, coordinate work processes and analyze data across platforms.

"The integration module ties together two business-critical systems – Intergraph's G/Technology and SAP – that drive many of the day-to-day decisions that are made at utilities like SMUD. Removing disconnected and redundant processes increases efficiency and enhances data quality, which are critical for business operations and insight. This technology can benefit any utility that uses SAP," said Hank DiPietro, vice president, U.S. utilities and communications, Intergraph Security, Government & Infrastructure (SG&I).

Developed by Intergraph SG&I's utilities team in Germany, working with the SAP Integration and Certification Center, the module has been deployed by leading global utility companies, including ESB Networks Ltd., the licensed operator of the electricity distribution system in the Republic of Ireland, and Sibelga, the operator of the electricity and gas distribution system for Belgium's capital region. In addition to the Web Services-based capability, Intergraph's complete suite of G/Technology-to-SAP interfaces include Database Queuing, MSMQ Queuing, SAP Connector and Orchestration Framework.

"Leading companies are leveraging Intergraph's SAP integrations to achieve a fundamental goal: seamless connection between core and complementary systems, which overcomes the challenges of manual input and redundant data," said Maximilian Weber, senior vice president, EMEA, Intergraph SG&I. "By conforming to industry standards and maximizing flexibility, the Intergraph-SAP integrations helps companies achieve more efficient IT and business operations."
