New Intel i7-based SBC added to MEN Micro's Scalable CompactPCI Serial Family

New board facilitates easy upgrades to latest CompactPCI Serial technology

BLUE BELL, Pa., Aug. 12, 2015 — (PRNewswire) —  MEN Micro Inc., a world-renowned provider of embedded computing and I/O solutions for mission-critical industrial, mobile and harsh environment applications, now offers the 3U CompactPCI Serial G23 single board computer (SBC) based on the fourth generation Intel Core i7 CPU.

The G23 is the latest in MEN Micro's scalable SBC family, following the same I/O interface assignment and front plate design as previous versions. This enables existing systems to be easily upgraded to the latest CompactPCI Serial technology, dramatically extending a system's lifecycle.

The SBC comes standard with a fourth generation Intel Core i7 processor with scalable performance that reaches a 3.4 GHz turbo boost frequency.

The G23 offers up to 16 GB of firmly soldered DDR3 DRAM and the front I/O comprises two DisplayPorts, two Gb Ethernet and two USB 3.0 interfaces. Extensive rear I/O includes seven PCIe, eight USB 2.0, two USB 3.0 and five SATA ports and one DisplayPort/HDMI interface.

The new CPU board is the third in a family of CompactPCI Serial SBCs having the same fit, form and function. Other interchangeable SBCs that support the same interfaces from MEN include the G22 processor board, equipped with a third generation Intel i7, and the G20 using the first i7 generation.

The upgradeable CompactPCI family concept began with the Pentium M-based F14 and has continued up to the CompactPCI PlusIO-based F23P (also equipped with the fourth generation i7).

Due to the scalability of the CompactPCI and CompactPCI Serial family, existing systems can forever be equipped with the latest processor platform and are therefore protected from component obsolescence.

MEN Micro uses Intel's tried and tested mobile series CPUs in these boards. To ensure they will withstand harsh, demanding environmental conditions and are resilient enough for the transportation market, the CPUs must incorporate a robust design as well as provide guaranteed long-term component availability, which means at least 10 years in the railway market.

To meet rugged application requirements, these CompactPCI boards withstand extreme vibration, shock, dust and humidity, use advanced cooling concepts to operate in an extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and conform to market specific norms, like EN 50155 for railways.
