TerraGo Edge Deployed by Kleinfelder to Replace GPS Handhelds

WASHINGTON, D.C.  NOVEMBER 12, 2015 -  TerraGo announced today that Kleinfelder, one of the world’s leading engineering, science and architectural consulting firms, has deployed  TerraGo Edge for GPS data collection projects. With field workers utilizing TerraGo Edge on iPads, Kleinfelder has been able to improve productivity, lower costs and provide real-time data access for customers, transforming the delivery of client services with the innovative application of the latest mobile and cloud surveying technology.

According to Michael Archer, Project Manager at Kleinfelder, “The relative cost savings over traditional GPS gear were about 70%, from over $10,000 to around $3,000; but the biggest savings were in productivity, especially the time spent processing and entering data. With the exact same project two years ago, we had to manually upload and post-process field data. TerraGo Edge easily saved us four hours per day that we previously had to spend processing data.”

Because Kleinfelder works on numerous complex projects that have unique accuracy and data requirements, one of the key benefits of TerraGo Edge was an open GPS solution. Open GPS meant the app could be paired via Bluetooth with any number of GPS receivers that supplied the requisite level of accuracy, from 3 meters to sub-meter to centimeter, and supports all the leading manufacturers, such as Trimble, CHC or EOS. Also, because different customer projects had unique regulatory and data collection requirements, Kleinfelder needed the ability to customize survey forms for each project. The TerraGo Edge solution enabled them to easily create forms specifically tailored to each project or study. From the US Army Corps of Engineers Wetland Regulatory Assistance Program (WRAP) standards to customer-defined data forms, Kleinfelder could provide field teams with the right forms, maps and required GPS accuracy, all from the users’ iPads.

Beyond the improved efficiency and lower cost of operations, Kleinfelder also sees great promise for improving customer access to data. “The biggest thing for our customers is we can simply give our customers access to the TerraGo Edge portal,” said Michael Archer, Project Manager at Kleinfelder. “That means real savings in time and effort for our team because we don’t have to process and deliver data. For our customers, it means they can login and look at their data without waiting on reports or making requests.”
