SiTune STN6522 - The Industry's First Concurrent Satellite AND Terrestrial Dual Tuner

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwired - January 07, 2016) - SiTune Corporation, an innovative pioneer in semiconductor tuners, transceivers, and wireless radios, today announced a concurrent satellite and terrestrial narrowband dual tuner with innovative loop through technology. Utilizing SiTune's advanced RF circuitry, the STN6522 sets new levels of narrowband tuner performance.

The new dual tuner chip, STN6522, supports satellite and terrestrial RF inputs while providing both satellite AND terrestrial outputs concurrently at the same time. Developed with SiTune's advanced 55nm mixed-signal RF technology, the STN6522 receives one satellite signal in the 950-2150MHz spectrum AND one terrestrial / cable signal in the UHF/VHF spectrum from 44 to 1002MHz. With integrated LNA and elimination of the RF switch needed between tuners, the STN6522 enables low power consumption and low bill of material (BOM) solutions for the emerging hybrid satellite and terrestrial Set Top Box (STB) market. The STN6522's innovative loop through technology enables densely packed designs with more tuners integrated in smaller spaces, enabling the smallest possible television tuner modules supporting 2 (1T/1S), 4 (2T/2S) or 6 (3T/3S) channel television reception while providing the highest performance for Japan and other markets worldwide.

The STN6522 enables the Time-Shift TV feature in televisions as multiple 3T/3S modules are built into a television due to the small size of the modules. This is a favorite feature in TVs that empowers consumers to automatically record all programs from their favorite broadcast TV channels over a 1-week rolling window allowing viewers more time to watch their favorite TV shows without having to specifically record them.

The STN6522 also enables STBs to support both satellite and terrestrial at the same time such that one channel can be watched while the other is recorded or streamed to another device. With 3T/3S, a user can receive 3 terrestrial channels and 3 satellite channels all at once.

The highly programmable capability of the STN6522 allows it to be adjusted for interference and it is designed with excellent immunity to 4G/LTE, WiFi, and other wireless interference signals typically present in consumer home environments.

"We see a growing demand for dual channel Hybrid Set Top Boxes around the world and particularly in Japan where most televisions have four or six tuners built into them," said Ben Runyan, SiTune's VP of Sales and Marketing. "With satellite television technology growing in prevalence and with many countries providing free-to-air satellite and terrestrial service, the STN6522 is an ideal solution helping Set Top Boxes advance further to support both terrestrial and satellite in free-to-air broadcast markets."
