In-house Production Costs Reduced and Structural Weldments Eliminated
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (Mar. 1, 2016) -- - CCE, a leading mechanical and electromechanical design, engineering, and manufacturing services provider, reduced the cost of a simulator by simplifying the assembly design.
CCE engineers re-designed a large assembly structure by replacing in-house manufactured structural posts with bought-out components. Based on the assembly function, structural strength and rigidity were considered key factors in selecting the replacement parts. The re-design was done in collaboration with the end-client and because of efficient communication, only a few design iterations were needed.
CCE’s engineering design services team received a request to create a simplified design of this particular simulator assembly, a type of project that CCE has had a great deal of experience in. Based on the client’s input, CCE’s team chose to introduce fabricated extrusion blocks, which reduced the cost of in-house production and eliminated structural weldments by using fasteners. CCE’s team investigated the availability of the extrusion blocks from client-approved vendors. Upon selection of the replacement parts, CCE’s team performed positional analysis to create a simplified design of the existing assembly. On completion of this re-design and acceptance by the client, a design check was performed at the client’s work site.
CCE completed the design by providing a new set of drawings for all of the parts and the assembly. The client was very pleased with the outcome and appreciated CCE’s value addition to the design.
