Esri UK Receives Prestigious Geographical Association Publishers’ Award

Aylesbury, UK, April 19, 2016 – Congratulations to Esri UK’s Education team who have been awarded a prestigious ‘Silver’, the top in its category in The Geographical Association Publishers’ Awards 2016.  Esri’s ArcGIS Online free Public Account was recognised as a vital online resource making a significant contribution to the teaching of geography in primary schools, secondary schools and colleges, and encouraging the development of new materials.

The Award was presented at The Geographical Associations Annual Conference in Manchester.

“The Award recognises how valuable ArcGIS Online is for teaching geography and that it is available to every school in the country to use” said Esri UK’s GIS for Schools Manager, Jason Sawle. “This is particularly relevant to schools in England where the new geography curriculum starts in September and teaching with GIS is a major focus.”

The Esri UK GIS for Schools programme provides software, training and resources to help teachers get started with GIS. ArcGIS Online provides a gateway into GIS that allows students to use the latest technology and data for their studies. Schools can use Collector for ArcGIS for fieldwork, ArcGIS Online for data analysis and all of their mapping can be presented using a Storymap.

In its citation, The Geographical Association’s judging panel commented that ArcGIS Online is not only very easy to use and engaging, but the high-quality information is up-to-date, and the ability to share completed Story Maps a most useful feature.
