Anritsu Expands Test Portfolio with Solution Supporting Development of Next-generation 200G/400G BERT PAM4 Communication Standards

New 32 Gbaud PAM4 High Amplitude Output and CTLE/PAM4 Decoder BER Test Functions Add Capabilities to MP1800A BERT for Emerging Designs

Richardson, TX – Feb 1, 2017 – Anritsu Company introduces the 32 Gbaud Power PAM4 Converter G0375A and 32 Gbaud PAM4 Decoder with CTLE G0376A for its Signal Quality Analyzer (SQA) MP1800A series that expand the company’s industry leading 32 GBaud PAM4 BER test portfolio. Supporting the PAM4 input tests and BER measurements defined in the next-generation 200 GbE / 400 GbE and CEI-56G standards, the G0375A and G0376A can be integrated with the MP1800A to create a highly accurate solution used by R&D engineers to verify high-speed electronic and optical devices, and optical transceiver modules used in high-end servers and communications equipment.

The G0375A and G0376A remote heads meet the market need for 32 Gbaud PAM4 BER measurement solutions that will play a major role in the establishment of next-generation PAM4 communication standards. They have been developed to be used with the SQA MP1800A with built-in 32G pulse pattern generator (PPG) and error detector (ED) to extend measurement support for both NRZ and PAM4 measurements using current NRZ measuring instruments.

Combining the G0375A with the SQA MP1800A 28G/32Gbit/s PPG converts 32 Gbit/s NRZ signals to PAM4 signals to output a high-amplitude signal of 4.4 Vp-p (differential, max.). Additionally, the 3-channel PPG synchronization function permits independent control of the PAM4 signal 3Eye amplitudes. This enables highly reproducible evaluation of optical modulators without using an external driver amplifier. With built-in PAM4 decode and CTLE functions, the G0376A supports measurement of PAM4 decoded binary signals using the built-in 28 Gbit/s / 32 Gbit/s high sensitivity ED of the MP1800A. In addition, combination with the CTLE function supports high-efficiency, input-sensitivity performance tests.

The SQA MP1800A is a plug-in module type Bit Error Rate Tester (BERT) that can generate synchronous signals for up to 8 channels using the built-in 32 Gbit/s multi-channel PPG and ED modules. It features low intrinsic jitter of 300 fs rms for highly accurate jitter tolerance tests. The scalable platform of the BERT maximizes equipment investment and controls future costs.
