Ten Golden Goblet Awards of the 21st SIFF Announced

SHANGHAI, June 27, 2018 — (PRNewswire) — During the ten days of the 21st Shanghai International Film Festival, The Belt and Road Film Week, SIFFORUM, International Panorama, the selection of Asian New Talent Award, SIFF Project, Film Market and other events were successively held. On the night of June 24, the Award Ceremony of the Golden Goblet Awards was unveiled at the Shanghai Grand Theatre.

At the Red Carpet of the Award Ceremony, members of the new film crew from across the world, members of the jury, representatives of the participative crew of the Awards, Chinese and overseas stars, appeared in front of the media. Among them, Hollywood star Jesse Eisenberg appeared, to everyone's surprise. He participated in SIFF and attended SIFFORUM, sharing his professional experience with his counterparts, while witnessing his popularity in China.

SIFF has enhanced its international influence after holding the "New Wave" Chinese film forum in Cannes in May and co-hosting the Opening Night with the Marche Du Film. It has attracted 3,447 film entries from 108 countries and regions this year and aired 492 films in 1,621 screenings with the audience exceeding 460,000. Among the entries, a total of 590 films from 73 countries and regions signed up for the 8 awards of the Main Competition. Finally, 13 films were selected. Over the past few days, the jury, chaired by Chinese director and actor Jiang Wen, has selected the winners. The results of the Awards were announced at the award ceremony.

The Award for Best Feature Film was granted to OUT OF PARADISE (Switzerland/Mongolia) directed by Batbayar Chogsom; the Award for Jury Grand Prix to ALA CHANGSO (China) directed by Sonthar Gyal; the two brothers Rodrigo Barriuso and Sebastian Barriuso earned the Award for Best Director for A TRANSLATOR (Cuba/Canada); Tye Sheridan from USA and Isabelle Blais from Canada were awarded Best Actor and Best Actress for their excellent performance in FRIDAY'S CHILD (USA) and TADOUSSAC (Canada); the Award for Best Screenplay went to Tashi Dawa and Sonthar Gyal for ALA CHANGSO (China); the Award for Outstanding Artistic Achievement to CARNIVORES (France/Belgium) directed by Jeremie Renier and Yannick Renier; MAQUIA: WHEN THE PROMISED FLOWER BLOOMS directed by Japanese director Mari Okada won the Award for Best Animation Film; and THE LONG SEASON (The Netherlands) directed by Leonard Retel Helmrich earned the Award for Best Documentary Film.

After the award ceremony, OUT OF PARADISE, the Best Feature Film of the Awards was screened. The film was co-produced by Switzerland and Mongolia, telling a story of a pair of nomadic couples welcoming their first child.
